ok, i know the 5770 has dx11, eyefinity etc but there so close, i cant decide between them! im playing mw1, grid and hl2, and will buy mw2 when i choose between the two. and then in November the new cod black ops


also im not liking the half or full exhaust in to case on the 5770 which is why im pondering!

id guess the 5770 is better but the mem bandwidth is confusing me will a 4.6ghz 126bit (5770) run faster or slower then 3.2ghz 256bit (4870)

EDIT: forgot to say i play in 1280x1024 75Hz on a 17" dell flat screen but will be getting a 19" or 20" lcd screen that has the dvi connector for dvi to hdmi back to dvi from the card

blaineoliver ok thats a big difference i think, so what about the bandwidth part as im not to clear on gpu's really



very true Ko0lHaNDLuKe, funnily enough the 5770 is £10 cheaper!! and its a vaoupr x, but ive read there harder to clock
 
there bang on each other! fps are literly the same more or less, which is why im asking!!

in fact on cod 5 the 4870 out performed the 5770 by 8-12 fps @ 1280x1024

5850s are quite a bit faster, but obviously cost a lot more.

There's also the 5830 now they've dropped in price elsewhere (~£160), but admittedly these suck more juice and run hotter than the 5850, they're a decent stepping stone now that prices have dropped however.

Out of the 5770 and the 4870, I'd go for the 5770, the 4870s are good cards, but the 5770 will be a lot quieter (in most cases), run cooler, suck less power and have higher overclocking headroom :)
Slightly more efficient core, slightly less memory bandwidth, its all give and take.
<And I had a 4870, and have played with a 5750 [and that also overclocks nicely and stays pretty cool]>

If you've got the available cash, and a decent PSU, then by all means look into the 5830 and 5850 though.
 
5770, its faster, quieter, dx11, great overclockability and consumes much less power. My cards rarely go above 60 degrees (furmark) and are inaudiable with the fans on auto above my case fans. Really are fantastic value cards.
 
For the res you're on now (and for the 19/20" you're after) both cards are more than capable.

I would persoanlly choose the 5770 given the choice as it's a cooler card to run and sports DX11.


PS I'm currently on a 9600gt with 1920*1080 screen.
 
The 4870 and the 5770 are just about level BUT 4870's do not overclock well at all ( i have a saphire 4870 with a decent cooler and it idles at 55-60 degrees at stock clocks). The 5770 will overclock easily beyond what a 4870 will so go for a 5770.
 
have to give another vote for the 5770, reasons all pretty much given above :)

is this for the rig in your sig?
 
I wouldn't worry too much about the badnwidth, it wont really affect you.
The 5770 has as much bandwidth as a card with a 256bit bus and GDDR3, and RAM running at twice the speed, due to the GDDR5.

Ergo the 128bit GDDR5 at 1.2Ghz (4.8Ghz) is the same as 256bit GDDR3 running at 1.2Ghz (2.4)

You don't need to look at or care about individual specs on graphics cards. Because they change so much from one series or brand to the next, doing so is counter-productive in that it is not representative of performance.

All you need to base your purchase on is performance figures in games & features (like DX versions, power consumption, software etc).

Also, pay attention to minimum framerates where available rather than average. As they are the worst you will see, they are often the most significant performance point in real usage.

I have to say...getting a mon that's res at 1680x1050 nowadays seem to be outdated and not worth it, as 1920x1080 mon has pretty much became a common standard now, and you can actually pick up a pretty decent brand 21.5" 1080p mon at around £120~£150 from etailors.

even if its cheap?, and im not fussed having the latest and greatist, so long as its playable i dont care :D

is there any major flaws in having 1680x1050, and just getting a 1920x1080 screen for the sake of it, i mean my brother plays mw1 and grid on a 7900gtx and it all runs well!

any thing has got to be better then a 17" screen run by a x1950xtx, any things gotta be better then that set up!! im just slowly getting there
 
to confuse matter more, ive decided i have alittle extra to play with as im not getting the screen next week. how about the 4870 x2 (2gb) ??

currently have 500 watt 28amp 98% effecincy psu maybe you lot may know the company.. being nrp
