Anyone flying any England flags on your car?

I had two last World Cup, but I don't think I'll bother this year. I shall still do my best to confuse people by wondering around gothed up with my New Rocks boot and Living Dead Souls jacket on over my England shirt :)

I'm a season ticket holder of the greatest football team in the world, and I wouldn't dream of putting an England flag near my car.

I do have an England tattoo though, I was young ok.

Im glad im moving to a country where the people arnt ashamed to fly their national flag and shout racist and thicko chav at anyone that does.

I have one on my car, i also have a sticker on the rear window that says Support Our Troops. Am i racist ?

If this country was more patriotic then maybe our national colours wouldnt be abused by the likes of the BNP and others.

Yeah wave them for one month for a sporting event. Nice one.

I find the flags with England written on them ammusing.

Its clearly to remind English people that a white flag with a red cross is an English flag, incase they forget.

Well having a flag on your house or car everyday is just impractical. I look at it as the same way you don't wear your best clothes every single day. Does anyone say " lol look at him with his suit on... he is only wearing it because its a wedding". The world Cup in this case is the wedding... its the biggest occasion for football fans and most of the UK. This is the one time that people can be patriotic without looking like a BNP lunatic.

You do have a point, but on the other hand I think the point here was rather that 'football' patriotism is rather daft and distasteful, when people seem to pull patriotism out just for the world cup and then it's gone until the next one, and it's usually wildly over the top too.

I love my country but it's got absolutely nothing to do with football, I'm not interested in football and I find people sudely flying the flag because it's the world cup rather ...odd, why don't they fly it the rest of the time ? ...and why do some people plaster it all over everything they can ?. ..just for the world cup and then it's gone. I suspect most of these people haven't a clue about the history of this country, about who the British are and where we came from and why Britain is like it is ...why English is what it is and how England came into being etc. Most of the people refered to here are just morons, tasteless charletons who pull out some sort of chest beating faux-patriotism for the world cup and then forget about it afterwards.

I don't have a problem with people wanting to fly the flag all year long, with no particular reason other than to display national pride. I do have a massive problem with those who bung a flag on for the world cup, claim patriotism and then chuck it in the bin after we get knocked out in the quarter finals.

It also seems the flag has been hijacked by far right and no one seems to be doing anything about it.

amen to that!

EVERY car with a flag has a baseball cap and football shirt wearing rock ape in it who thinks being patriotic is simply hating everything and everyone foreign. People are thick as **** in the main, tis sadly a fact.

Wouldn't happen to be very narrow minded would you ? and erm it's more your opinion rather than a fact Id say ..

its not that

Its not patriotism

People only start flying flags when england play. Its just supporting a football club.

If people were patriotic, they would have the flags outside their pubs, on their cars etc.. all year round.

Thats why its chavvy, because its just supporting a football team, and all the football violence etc.. that goes with it.

No way have you just posted that last sentence .. It's not just a football club it's our National team in an international tournyment on a world stage. people fly England flags at that time as way of showing support and that happens for other sports not just for international football now a days. And just because they support a football team it's nothing to do with supporting any violence that goes with it !!

Some of the posts in this thread make me ashamed to be an English man.. have some pride in your country and its heritage, if you want to fly a flag at times as a way of showing it then go ahead, if you don't want to fly flags then thats good as well, but please don't label people who do as doing something wrong ..

because teenage pregnancy, binge drinking, and football hooliganism is something to be proud of ?

Be that as it may, even if the above doesnt bother and you still think england is great, this has nothing to do with national pride, because the flags will be binned / burnt / whatever when England get knocked out and everybody will stop flying their flags.

way of showing support

You've said it yourself, it's about showing support for a football team, nothing to do with patriotism.

There is something wrong when people are only patriotic for a month every two years, or whenever else we happen to be winning something, such as the massive surge in both 'patriotism' and rugby fans when it became apparent they might actually win the RWC a few years back.
