Worth Going From Vista -> 7?

I've never really paid much attention to the whole Vista/7 debate in the past, but now I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade? I can get hold of a copy for free :D, so the cost isn't an issue.
I've done some searching around but most of the results are highly opinionated and don't really state if it's worth the time. Personally I'm leaning towards 7 as I intent to re-install Vista sometime soon anyway, so might as well take the opportunity and go 7.

So, people who have 7, is it worth it over Vista?

That's good to hear, is there any actual benefits feature wise, or just overall a nicer experience? The PC I'll be installing it on isn't top of the range, but is pretty powerful, if that makes any difference.

Less memory usage, more responsive UI, UAC is less annoying. I generally prefer the window management in 7. There as some under the hood kernel changes that make it more power efficient and improve memory management. Too many to list really have a look here:

If you're getting it for nothing and are planning to do a fresh install anyway it's an absolute no brainer.

In a word, yes. I've bought 2 copies of 7 this year already to upgrade Vista machines as it's so much nicer to use, especially on older machines. I'm toying with a 3rd copy for my netbook!

Yes, get Windows 7. Even if you couldn't get a free copy I'd still recommend upgrading because it's so much nicer to use than Vista.

Do it, window management is awesome, my tablet is on win7 and my desktop on Vista, really want to update to win7 on the desktop but user folders on separate drive and x64 = no upgrading.
Would have to do a clean install, and with 100+ games and many more apps that would take waaaay too long.

It seems more snappy, things are organised better, can't comment on UAC as I turn it off, taskbar is waaaay better, just generally a step up.

As sick as I am of those damned annoying adverts, the window snap feature is super useful on my widescreen monitor. I often try and snap my windows on my XP machine, forgetting it doesn't have that feature!

It's even better on dual monitors, very useful to be able to just drag windows between windows, and have them maximize to the right resolutions!

AeroSnap allows you to snap windows on Windows XP.

7 > Vista.

Vista made a few improvements over xp, unfortunately speed wasn't one of them, 7 rectifes this and has the new taskbar as well which I like. :)

Basicly, go for it.
