Hey guys. Im currently running at 3.4 and as the title says 4.0ghz is the aim but potentially unrealistic. I had my chip stable on 3.6 but i froze up in bc2 and couldnt get it stable again on ibt so i had to drop it to 3.4. My overclocking knowledge/experience only extends to playing around with the vcore and upping the fsb then running prime/ibt to check stability. In another thread ive been told that i need to be looking into nbridge voltage, vtt, ppl and reference voltage to progess any further. This is where i need your help.

A screeny of ibt running 40 cycles on high and temps

If you guys could reccomend some voltages and any of the translation to my bios that would be brilliant and lets hope i can get more out of this chip :D

which revision of the q9550 have you got? if its the e0 then you can get it up to 4ghz as I've seen a few folk up at that speed. I've got the c1 revision and I struggle to reach 3.6ghz and keep it stable. I'm sitting at 3.4ghz as well.

tbh i just presumed i had the E0 so im kind of dissapointed to realise i have the C1, still hopeful i can get past 3.4 though

I ran my Q9550 (C1) @ 4.0GHz, although full load temps were highish (high 70Cs), my E0 ran quite a bit cooler, high 50Cs @ 4.0GHz...

Was just going to say, I did a google for 'overclocking q9550 C1' and there was a few results for people with C1 at 4Ghz, and with jbloggs above it is possible. The first result i saw had a full list of bios settings as well ;)

You have to disable speedstep, EISt and TM function for the motherboard.
Enable loadline calibration and add some juice to DDR, MCH, PCI-e and FSB overvoltage control, 1 notch at a time and start with 1.3 - 1.35 CPU Voltage.

Thanks reygjabla il have a look into it 2moro and get back with some feedback. shall i just do as you said on 3.6 and get that stable before going any further?

How do you have 6GB ram? 2x1GB + 2x2GB? Doesnt that put a lot of strain on the memory controller - Lower overclock?

Q9550 EO and C1 easily does 3.825Ghz using 450x8.5 depending on your mobo. It's best to clock it using 2 sticks of RAM. When you get stable, then you can start adding more RAMs and adjust the necessary voltages.

well im saving up for a new gpu, would it be a good idea to just have 4gb of memory and sell the 2x1gb to put towards that?

You dont need 6GB of ram for Games. Video editing may benefit from the extra ram, but it makes overclocking harder.

well im going to sell the 2x1gb sticks to put towards my gpu. what do you think i should try and fetch for it? i would ask on the MM but i wont be on there for another 2 months yet so will seel elsewhere

I had a C1 that did 3.8 easily but the mob that I had wouldn't do the fsb needed for 4ghz. :(

As mentioned, they clock just as well as E0 chips but run considerably hotter. I sold mine in the end and bought an E0 that ran nearly 20C cooler at full load.
