Has a show ever recovered after being canned?

Star Trek - canned in '69, brought back as an animated series briefly, then as a film series, and then several spin-offs on TV.

Family Guy - cancelled after Season 3, brought back in 2005.

As title. Has there ever been an example of a show being canned, and then somehow the cast, producers etc reviving it, even if on another network?

I think B5 got cancelled and picked up at least once by a different network in the States (it may have been twice), although it did mess up their last couple of seasons a bit as they tried to wrap as much up as possible at the end of the forth season.

Other than that Jericho and Family guy are the only two obvious examples, as I wouldn't call the return of ST in Next Generation guise as a return, as it was a different cast entirely, and set at a different time rather than a continuation of the same cast/story.

Family Guy and Futurama.....and in a way Firefly. after it cancelled it got a major motion picture and became more popular than it ever was when it was on.

problem with US tv shows is that they are so insane about ratings and advertising revenues that they cancel stuff left right and center, (even when its not doing that badly)

good dvd sales seem to be the way to get stuff back on tv (family guy and futurama style)

what would be the best way of going about getting a show back on the air? It's a little bit hopeful. but :D

That's never happening, the original cast pretty much jumped ship, a different network picked it up on the hope of it keeping its previous audience, and it didn't live up to expectations.

Just enjoy what you got, some shows don't even last one season and were a lot better then what scrubs became

Chuck was canceled last year, but Zach Levy headed up a campaign to get it renewed which worked and now its been renewed again.
Was it actually cancelled? I thought it was just rumoured.

Yeah Drive got cancelled by Fox after TWO episodes had aired! That's just ridiculous.

Wasn't Star Trek cancelled during the third series?

Oops, re read above.

Also Dr Who which was never actually cancelled as such, but it wasn't commissioned for quite a while.

Wish Firefly would be brought back.

That and Farscape were two amazing series that were unfortunately (and unwisely imo) cancelled.

Chuck was never cancelled, I can't remember the technical terms but it basically came through on clearing rather than being instantly renewed.

Edit: And if I could bring back a show (other than some mentioned here) it would be The Unit.

Chuck is and always has been a "bubble show" so to speak. Meaning it gets solid and consistent ratings because it has a strong but small following; however, compared to most other network shows the viewings it gets (in the US) are pretty low.

It was very very close to being killed off at the end of season 2 (primarily because of budget concerns among other things); it was never completeley cancelled but the renewal decision was delayed and relied heavily on a fan driven campaign involving Subway.

US network TV is brutal, swap and change happens week in and week out.
