Gulf Oil Spill ( LIVE FEED )

Subsea operational update:

• On June 5, a total of 10,500 barrels of oil was collected and 22 million standards cubic feet of natural gas was flared.
• Optimization continues and improvement in oil collection is expected over the next few days.

Something different from Enterprise ROV 2:

So what about ROVs:

The next step is for BP engineers to attempt to close vents on the cap that allow streams of oil to escape and prevent that water intake, and Hayward told the BBC that the company hopes a second containment system will be in place by next weekend. Allen told CBS that the oil would stop flowing only when the leak was plugged with cement.

Wonder what the secone containment system is

perhaps they don't really know themself, and buying some thinking time

Maybe. I would have thought that they were working on a plan “B” when the capping operation started just in case. Anyway, I’m fascinated but what this next containment system could possibly be.

Whats happening now? Did it fail? I didn't watch over the weekend.

The cap is on, they're collecting oil:

It's still leaking from the vents and they are planning to put in a second containment system by next weekend. They haven't said what this system will be.

Cheers pal :) So it was sucsesful? Did they plan on using a second containment system in the first place?

Could always be something along the lines of a second cap. One that comes in two halfs and goes round the underside of the bolted together bit and round the pipe leading to the ship? With the reduction in pressure (due to oil going through the pipe to the ship) something like that may now be possible if it wan't before.

lol cap a cap! I can't think what it could be, unless they are just designing a better cap, but from how it was worded in the interview it sounded like something aswel as the cap

A concrete condon for safer .......

No, that's not right. Been watching too many ROVs and it's tme for bed, good night. :)
