The optical drive makes an awful sound on my Mac Pro

I do have a Blue-Ray burner in slot 2, but would like to replace the primary
drive.

Lost touch with the makes and uses of DVD writers etc

Would need to:

• Be able to remove slot cover/fascia to fit in the mac
• DL writer

This is the drive fitted at present:

HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GH41N:

Firmware Revision: PQ06
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

Many thanks in advance

Mac is only good for one thing and one thing only...we all know what that is...

Errr, yes, you come into the Mac forum and offer no advice whatsoever?

OP - has the drive always been noisy? Is the noise the result of possible damage or is it just an all round generally noisy drive?

Still works fine, and has little use, but just sounds naff!!

Would replace, but lost touch of the decent compatible drives avail.

The drive cage slides out in a Mac Pro (PDF guide)

You can buy any drive, providing it's a SATA drive :)
