Nokia N8 - The ultimate phone?

Android is still much superior in terms of providing a user-friendly UI, regardless of any silly "but they all essentially so the same thing" arguments.

No one is disputing android is the more user friendly interface, it was fact that some people were making out symbian is only good for "dumb" phones whereas it is still capable of a lot.

I've used symbian on and off for years and I still struggle to find things occasionally :p

Hopefully the new version of symbian will be prettier and more user friendly but I doubt it.

However they reckon that it will be a lot easier to write apps for so it will at least get some new gadgets to keep people happy.

The only reviews have come from a stolen prototype running very early software. It's the equivalent of trashing a video game based on an leaked alpha release.

Lets take bets that the actual funcitonality of the final software is the same as the early version, except with less bugs. History repeating itself. It's essentially old crusty Symbian with a botox injection.

Agreed you can do a lot with Symbian, and I consider my N82 the best all-round phone I ever had. It's only with the switch to touch-screen that my requirements and expectations have been radically altered.

this isnt meant to be an andriod vs symbian thread. Its just about the phone!

btw what does 'user friendly' mean?

The N8 uses Symbian's new graphics architecture meaning that the whole user interface will be hardware accelerated. That should remove all of the slowdown and flicker that's present on the N97.

They've also removed the double-tap concept from the user interface, so the N8 will definitely be more user friendly.

The new version of Symbian will be prettier and more user friendly. The question is by how much.

I'd agree with you there looking at what been leaked about S3 so far and with Nokia's track record of late I'm not confident that even some of the major bugs will be ironed out and it will need 10 firmware updates to get them fixed.

Hopefully we'll be wrong and another OS will be on the market to give more choice but as much as I have liked Symbian, on the touch screen variant little things annoyed me, such as 'do I double tap the screen to get in that menu or not?'

Hopefully Nokia will revamp their OVI Apps shop as well because its absolute abortion when compared to the Google's or Apple's versions. Having said that though its no where near as bad Microsoft's Marketplace which is a total waste of time.

The ability to develop in the QT environment should hopefully see some quality program emerging fairly quickly but again it will all depend on Nokia providing the correct distribution method for them.

These are, I believe, both being sorted for v3 (Ovi store obviously standalone but I'm sure I saw a screenshot showing a much nicer-looking version).

I won't be going anywhere near Nokia after my experience with the N97.
I hate how they release a flagship phone and then run to the hill's.
Maybe they will stick with the N8 and fix all of quirks if there are any.
Maybe they will launch a phone with no quirks ?
Hope so for them.
I think there are a lot of N97 owners or ex owners who feel very hard done by.
