when i pushed the A key on my bold 9700 it locked the keypad and required a password to unlock

since i have done a software update pushing the A key still locks the keypad but can be unlocked by pushing the button on the top of the phone

how can i make it require a password to unlock again ?

Over at Crackberry theres a large (and quite a few smaller) thread on this!...

Appears RIM changed the OS so it just locks the keyboard (like on a Nokia or SE phone) and doesn't require a password!...

Think its been like that now since OS - 595.. I'm running .680!

I just have mine 'old skool' Locking and asking for a password when I shove it in the holster and then remove it!...

I'm after a decent case now that 'sleeps' the 9700 but doesn't look daft when you'r using the phone!.. (I've dropped it once and there's a small scratch on the chrome bezel which upsets me :( )

i only upgraded my software this morning and this is the most stupid thing ever

so if i lock my phone and loose it, anyone can get in to it without a password

Well then set a password up in the options??...its not stupid, its the way its meant to work;).

If you dont like it then go back to an older OS that doesnt have this option...personally i think its the best thing they have done in all honesty....its the way it should have been from day one.

I do have a password set in the options. That's the point. It doesn't ask for it anymore when you unlock the phone.

Reset the password and try again. Pressing the "A" button on my curve knocked it into standby mode on upgrading to os 5 last night. Simply pressing the lock/unlock icon at the top of the phone reactivates the screen. The password lock option/icon remains in the menu.

edit: I believe there is also an app to lock your phone as well.
