Currently using a Dell Studio 15 i7, and tbh, it's complete overkill for surfing the net, downloading, and watching the odd HD video, and the battery lasts about an hour and a half just surfing, so a downgrade's in order!

Looking for something with 4hrs+ battery life, 11 to 14" screen, Windows 7, preferably a dual core CPU, 2gb+ RAM, 250gb+ HDD, and enough graphics power to decode HD video smoothly. :)

OK, narrowed it down to 3!

Acer Ferrari One 200 in the MM for £275, Asus UL30A for £350, or Asus UL80VT for £450.

Like the Acer as it's cheapest, the UL30 as it's got the longest battery life, and the UL80 as it seems to combine the strong points of the first two, but unfortunately it's quite a bit more expensive.

Any help please? ;)

How about a Nova-tech V13/V14? 13.3 and 14" screens respectively and you can get them with Intel ULV Pentium Dual Core 4100 Processors which sip battery.

Also looking for a similar notebook/laptop. Was gona start a new thread but thought would just add my two cents here! Had also narrowed it down to the Asus laptops...swaying towards the UL80VT despite the higher cost.

Read on some forums that the UL30A does struggle at times with 1080 viewing. Would the UL80VT also struggle as its the same processor (although it does come with a NVIDIA 210m dedicated graphics card?)

the ul30a doesn;t struggle with 1080p viewing provided you are using a decent media player....either MPC-HC with DVXA or coreAVC

Cheers for all the replies.

The V13/V14's don't seem to have any advantages over the Asus, so I think I'd rather go for a brand I know, the wife's 1005HA is a fantastic little machine.

The Acer looks to be around £450, and for that money, I think I'd prefer the extra screen size, GPU, and optical drive of the UL80, although the Acer does look very nice.

PS, slept on it, still unsure, lol!

got the ASUS UL30A, i cant believe how good it is for £350!!! i expected the laptop would made of toliet paper :D

just perfect for me, not too small, not too big, just right with dual core 1.2ghz. surprisely speedy. love the keyboard. good screen. blew my mind.

love express gate as well lol

Still torn between the 2 Asus models, trying to justify the extra £100 for the better model!

Same here. Going to pop into PCWorld or Currys on the way home and have a play with the UL80VT.

Does the asus have Win7 home premium or Win7 Starter?

Shadow_boxer, did you manage to have a play with the UL80?

And wesley, any further impressions on the UL30?
