HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

I'm a bit stuck with installing the villainROM10. I'm following the guide on the forum but when I try to access the custom recovery screen, by holding both the home and power keys I get an error screen, with a 3d exclamation mark and pic of a phone. What's going wrong here?

I've installed a villainROM before and never came across this, really stuck with what to do.

VR10 working fine here for me :)

had the problem with no keyboard so i flashed it than removed the SD card after it had finished and was in the installing part. Sorted it. Thinks its the A2SD.

Sounds like the recovery rom has vanished. Try installing the recovery rom again then do a reflash.

Have had the villainrom v10 installed for a few hours now and it really is quick compared to 1.5 roms. Was a bit wary as the phone is locked to Orange but just flashed the rom then an older radio and all is working fine.

MCR 4 pre release is out, currently having issues with it on my device though (stuck at bootscreen, looping)

Quick question, what are the implications if any, of rooting to Villainrom (or any custom ROM) and the OTA official update we are due anytime now?

custom roms, are sometimes better as they find stuff which isnt needed so remove it, making the rom size smaller, sometimes quicker, plus you can do lots more things like apps on sd card, custom themes, if you dont like it, you can always install the real release and go back to not having root.

villain rom 10 works fine here, much better signal on the new radio, sms send far quicker, the only thing i cant use is the OTA as i cooked my rom in the kitchen.

Had a problem with VR10 earlier, the VR Updater app and service were running my CPU at 100%. Drained about 30% of my battery in 45 mins or so.

So, diabled the VR Updater notification, but even after a reboot the damn thing kept running. So I downloaded Startup Manager from the market (needs root) and disabled VR Rom Updater.

Rebooted, it's not started since. Just charging, when full charged will use Spare Parts to keep an eye on battery usage. The chart in SP before was off the scale, lol

Hey guys, I'm running the T mobile version of this, on standard firmware.

Is there a way to (once connected via bluetooth or usb to my pc) write text messages from my PC?

I rarely text on this phone now, unless I'm waiting for something, it seems a real pita to text :)

Install adb drivers to the pc. Turn on usb debugging in the phone options. Launch androidscreencast.

Androidscreencast displays your phone screen on the pc. You can then control it with keyboard and mouse.
