New Car; I Broke All The Rules

I had three very different cars that I wanted to test drive for my c. £8k budget, CL500, Boxster S or 745i.

I went to drive the first of the three, a MY01 Boxster S. One owner, bought from Cambridge Porsche, taken back there after every year in the same week after almost exactly 7k miles, Dr owner that has never let it want for anything.

Options (reading them from the original hand written invoice)-

• Lapis Blue Metallic Pain / Blue Roof
• Wind Deflector
• On-board Computer
• Heated Seats
• CD Changer
• PSM (thank god, it’s my first RWD car)
• 18” Turbo Look Alloys
• Silver Roll Bar

Total price when new £42,897

It’s got all the old MOTs, service and repair bills. Some highlights are a £1,900 service, aircon re-gas every two years and a roof shampoo for £250 (plus VAT of course). It’s wanted for nothing.

There are of course stone chips in the bonnet and a slight scratch along the driver door from “Waitrose car park”, he said he would have had them done before he sold it but he didn’t want people to think that it had been in a crash and repaired.

He was only selling it because he was looking to get a DBS from the Aston garage next to the Porsche garage he got the Boxster from.

It’s the spec that I wanted (I would have like cruise but it’s the 18” alloys that I was most bothered about; chav) and I thought if I’m going to get a Boxster S then this is the one to buy. So I went with my gut and bought it, £9775 cash.

All in all a local car that I know it’s fully history with full documents supporting that. If ever there is a time to buy on a gut feeling I hope it was thing one, on paper i don’t think it could get any better.

Now all there is to be done if get the paint touched up and sick a private plate on it.

Only one picture for now until I get some decent ones taken. I should have taken more after I spent 4 hours cleaning it the other day!

Excuse the illegal parking, long story. I wouldn't bother making me go into it, if I did you'd understand. What's this forum coming to when you have to add a disclamer.

I know I've broken all the "car buying rules" but I've not been that bad have I?

Update-

Had my first go at "detailing" yesterday.

  • Preasure wash
  • Shampoo
  • Presure Wash
  • Clay
  • Presure Wash
  • Autoglym Super Resin Polish
  • Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection

Results (sorry about the poor pictures)-

Which rules did you break? Looks nice.

Thanks, that actually means a lot. You know what you're talking about.

List of rules-

1. Don't buy soft tops in May
2. Don't by the first car you see
3. Try all the options before you buy
4. Don't by a small car if you're 6"3" and 17st ;)
5. Don't make an offer on the spot, walk away and think about it. I did walk away then called back an hour or so later, so sort of stuff to that one.

Need I go on? To be honest though, I couldn't be happier with it.

:D

Actually yea you broke all the rules but to be honest you had the most stupid car list I've seen for ages anyway, you obviously wanted a soft top so driving a 745i was largely pointless anyway :p

Welcome to the club ;)

Any questions , dont hessitate to ask.

Get some clear lights on it when you can, makes it look so much better. Oh yeah, and sign up with boxa.net - absolute mine of info there.

This is my baby . . . . .

I would love to. I'm going to get the paint sorted first though. If I can pick up a set for £5-600 off ebay then I should be able to get all my money back for them come re-sale time, so it shouldn't really cost me anything. ~£850 is a lot of cash for a new set though, I'd rarther save the money for when it goes BANG!

I wanted a car that I wouldn't be able to have once I've had a family, if you know what I mean? I'm 25 and I'm sure in ten years time I'll be knee high in nappies and driving a Zafira (god I hope not!).

Have a look i would have thought £250 maybe a touch more.

Thanks, very nice car also.

Since you offered.

Where did you get the centre caps from, they look nice?
Where did you pick up your lights from?
Has your S got a non S exhaust or has your Non S got an S badge on? Or is it a bad picture?

Already found Boxa.net, got a buying guide from there and some good information. I also got a mechanic friend to check it out for me before I made the first offer.

rofl, good choice :]

nothing wrong with buying cabs now! beats paying more when it comes to summer and you really want one!

Very nice looking cars but has one of you got their wheels on backwards, they look like the spokes slant in different directions.

If this is so I'd check the tyre direction just to make sure as most high performance tyres need to be set in the right direction.

Andi.

Both correct. Drivers side slop forward, off side slope backwards. Annoying as I wish they both slopped forward, but correct none the less.

Can you still get the light conversions that change it from fried egg style to the newer oval style lights?
