8800gtx still ok

I game at 1366. X 768 and play games like arma2 etc will a 8800gtx still play this game well ? How does it compare to say a 5770 ?

8800GTX should handle that resolution pretty well, though may struggle at max settings with newer shader intensive games such as Metro2033.

A 5770 should give approximately 60% more performance over the GTX and maybe more in newer titles.

Arma 2 runs crap on my system in sig with a 8800gtx in, no matter what settings I use it's about 20-30 fps even when overclocked to ultra speeds :( although the res is set at 1680x1050

My god to think a few years ago the 8800 was unstoppable now a middle of the road card is way faster

I'm going to wait untill I can do something similar. Buy a £130 card that is much faster than what I have now:cool:

Last I checked, Arma2 runs slightly better on ATI cards and is heavily CPU bottleknecked. I get around 20-50fps on the singleplayer campaign and going from a 4890 to a 5870 main no difference at all due to the cpu bottlekneck.

If you have an SLi board then get another GTX, I was undecided what card to get last month as they all seemed pretty pricey for the performance so I picked up 2 8800GTX's from ebay for £116 in total, considering they outperform a GTX465 (£200+) its a nice cheap option :)

Not a bad idea, il have one for cheap in the for sale thread soon when the 5870 arrives, would a phenom at 3.8 bottleneck arma 2? It's the new crysis lol!

I can't see a CPU at that speed bottleneck a gfx card tbh
Minimum frame rate is hugely affected by CPU speed (as well as the CPU architecture) and the speed of the motherboard. For dual-threaded games that are heavy CPU dependent, it is possible that a Phenom II X2 or X4 at 3.8GHz not fast enough to push the minimum frame rate to over 25fps, not so much as a bottleneck, but more as a architecture limitation.

Even if the CPU is not bottlenecking graphic card, i5 750 and i7 920 tends to always deliver higher minimum frame rate than Phenom II in most of the games.

yup, the fps after 5870 installed from 8800gtx, overclocked is still 25-40fps, only difference is you can max out the settings and res and it makes no difference to fps lol...
