Will you be swaping the Desire for an iPhone4?

iPhone 4 looks pretty nice, really good specs, I found it hard to get excited about though, just don't like the same old homescreen and same old everything, that's one of those things I love about Android, it's the same operating system I had over a year ago but it has advanced so far in terms of capability and look in that short time.

Android devices are already on par with this offering in a lot of ways, processing power, screen quality, 3D capabilities and there are going to be even more powerful ~ 1.2GHz dual core snapdragons announced probably near the end of the year. The only real new thing it's bringing to the table is the highest resolution screen i've seen on a mobile, but is all that DPI really needed?

I have the same views and observations as you over the conference, didn't get excited at all.

With relation to the screen resolution thing, I was actually telling my friend about that earlier during the streams. For example, the HTC Desire's screen is awesome enough as it is, the only down side of it is the size.

The only major difference to current Android phones is the gyroscope addition this time around I believe? There was lots of talk about various apps (lol Farmville) but Android will inevitably get similar ones to these soon.

No I won't be swapping

When I got my Desire I considered waiting for the iPhone but the extra cost was just not justifiable. Some of the extra features over the Desire are of no use to me; video conferencing .... would never use it, iBooks ... would not use it, iPod functionality and iTunes integration ... I prefer to have a separate iPod (and in fact I have a iPod Touch) as it means that if I run down the battery on the iPod I a can still use the phone.

The new iPhone looks like a nice phone but sorry, not going to get one ....

Edit: Actually there is feature I like on the Android phones which is not on the iPhone ... the ability to have widgets (e.g. weather etc) on the "desktop" screens instead of having an icon to launch an "application" to get the information. The latter seems pretty dated now ..

Depends on battery life on the new iPhone. I seem to have failed in my quest to swap my desire for a 3GS so far, so I plan to wait a few more days, flog the desire and my Bold 9700 and pick up the new iPhone in the US.

Is 300 about the price I should ba asking for my Desire and 200 for the Bold do you reckon?

Looks like I'll definitely be changing now as the battery life looks pretty good. UI is uninspiring, but then of course I won't have to hover newer a charger all day.

No chance I'll be swapping over. The phone looks ok but none of the new features are particularly new or exciting. I have my iPod Touch for music/movies and my desire for phone/apps :D.

For me to get the iPhone it would have to be considerably better than the current Android offering. iPhone 4 is now on a par with the best Android phones and with Androids pace of development will be behind Android in a matter of months

OS4 is a disappointment, and how long will it be before OS5 has a chance to fix it? Android 2.2 is being released this month, and there will be a new version (Gingerbread) by the end of this year. I don't see how any real gadget lover could actually want to own an iPhone

I went from iPhone 3G to Desire and recently recieved an iPad. While I love the iPad the lack of real multitasking is a pain. I use Doggcatcher which handle all my podcast needs, downloads, runs in the background ... Having to mess around with Itunes is a big backwards step. While OS4 may offer a version of multitasking the limited RAM will be an issue. Looking forward to seeing the new iPhone but it would have to offer better functionality than Andriod for me to consider swapping. Andriod is all about Freedom.

The market is the only thing that lets Andriod down at the moment.

I agree with the Asgard, I moved from a 3GS to a X10 and wouldn't dream of switching back at the moment. There just isn't anything in the iPhone to temped me back to one, plus the camera on the X10 is going to take some beating for a high-end smart phone :)

had 3 iphones and whilst the iphone looks nice its still behind in many aspects to the evo 4g, im happy with my desire and i love andriod and dont miss anything about apples os.

with the iphone4 it seems like theyv just added pretty much the most useless features ever just to tick a box on a list.

But... but havn't you guys been paying attention?

"FaceTime is going to change the way we communicate forever."
"I can't believe this is real. That this is actually happening."
"This is going to change everything... all over again."

It wouldn't be Apple if they and some fanboys didn't lose 30 IQ points on the show floor :p

I wouldn't swap it doesn't offer anything new over what i have now with the Desire and will cost probably half as much as the desire again.

This is one of the main reasons I find Apple quite insulting, they have a habit of repackaging/rebranding established technologies and making like they've come up with some kind of revolutionary product. I always feel like they've assuming I'm so stupid I won't realise.
I had my first 'FaceTime' conversation about 6 years ago, over 3G as well.

What I love about the Apple threads, people are just buying it blindly. It's awful to read :(

Someone even said "folders" was one of the great improvements, WHOAH! :p

Please tell me he didn't say this about a technology that has basically been around for near on 7 years and that barely anyone uses. I've only ever video called once in my entire life, most people I gather are 1 or 0.

It's a great piece of kit but I'm glad to see that it's more of a catch-up release than a revolution. The newest Android phones (EVO 4g and Droid Incredible) do everything the new iPhone does already, and older phones (eg Desire, Nexus One) only lack the front facing video camera.

I might upgrade but it really depends on pricing, because my Nexus One is already a great phone.

Spot on...the new iphone looks nice but i was pretty underwhelmed by the whole announcement....i mean nothing really revolutionary has been brought to the table from apple other than a few tweaks hardware wise...the new OS is slightly better too but lets be honest...alof those features have been around on other better smartphones for a long time ie multi tasking for a start.

I had high hopes that Apple might have brought out something really revolutionary that would have put them head and shoulders above everyone else but they didnt so for me its a massive fail on their part.

I wrote a big long rant about why you'd be stupid to even consider downgrading to an iPhone 4 from a Desire but it was too long winded and as most people know, trying to explain the obvious benefits of a better handset to your average Apple user is completely pointless.
