Hi

I want to take the family on a picnic at the weekend weather permiting. I live in Hertfordshire and was wondering if anybody could reccomend a decent forest or nice woodland to visit preferably with a lake nearby ?

Any where in a 50 mile radius from Hertfordshire.

Thanks in advance for any info. :)

Might be further than you intended, but Alice Holt forest. Ancient forest with some awesome flora and trails in it

Isn't Epping Forest close by? The New Forest is a bit further but it's brilliant for a day trip, I live there and feel no need to travel elsewhere. Plenty of lakes and Scenery.

cheers guy's but both place's are a little far and with 2 kids in the car I cant see driving there an enjoyable experience unless I lock them in the boot.

Thinking of going to Ampthill Forest in Bedfordshire. Anybody been ?

Also if you are willing to consider a country park there is Wellington country park near reading in berkshire. Taken my family there for picnics a few times, great country park, bit of forest, play areas , all set around a big lake. They have regular events on too.
