can anyone help. bought some new kitchen doors to replace old dated ones as nothing wrong with carcess. the problem ive got is one of the fittings to the cabinet is failing to hold i think basically because the hole is too big.
the doors are pre drilled for the hinge unit so no movement there but had to drill into carcess for that part of the hinge.
for the time being had to re hang the old door as the holes for that are fine.
i tried some special putty stuff from diy shop that is supposed to go hard enough to screw but didnt work has anyone got any suggestions as me and my dad are stumped.
only options i can think are to either:
1. hang the door from the opposite side.
2. find either a long screw or wider screw
3. drill all the way through to the next cabinet and use a nut and bolt.

unless anyone has experinece the same before and found a solution. cheers

Use a bigger or longer screw, or maybe cut down a raw plug and put that in with a longer screw. Whats on the other side of the carcass where the screws are? (ie. will anything on the other side be noticeable)

If it's only one of the two brackets I'd be tempted to use no-nails on it if possible, once set it's extremely good strong and despite what it says on the tube does tend to hold smooth surfaces well if given time to set.

If larger screws aren't possible you could put some cardboard/paper into the hole and screw into it. The paper/cardboard should be wrapped around the screw, it'll force it into the hole and the thread, holding it to the carcass. Done this a few times - can take a few goes but once it's in, that's it.

New carcasses are pretty cheap though - if you value your time it may be best just to buy another one or fit the door on the opposite side (or even move the fitting up the door a bit and drill new holes).

sort of tried that but dad dismissed it for some reason. on the other side of the carcess is a corner unit so if drilled all the way through couldnt see the bolt.

did look at no nails or similar but there isnt really a flat surface on the back of the bracket. its raised up slightly. cant move the door up as the hinge is pre drilled. possbly new carcess may be best solution but a ballache to do.

how does the dowel thing work. please explain.

if you can't see the other side then a raw plug should work well and will spread easily enough the other side of the carcass wall to hold the door on. I put a venetian blind up in a box section like that and it's held for years with a lot of pulling on it.

What size screw you using and what hinge ? Can you take a pickie we use 5mm dia ones with the hinges we use. I'll send you some if they will fit your hinge.
