Basically I sold a graphics card on ebay for £30 I got the money and I stated that it would be first class delivery, it has now nearly been a week and he has made a paypal dispute and dispite telling him I have posted it and I could send him a photo of the receipt (along with a lot of emails which he claims not of recieved) he has escalated the claim to paypal. This has really ****ed me off as the funds were frozen. He wants a refund but I denied it and said he should speak to Royal Mail but they said things get lost sometimes but he wont take it. I'm not in the wrong what could I have done more why am I getting ripped off? Paypal have requested that I provide proof for the item in the form of a tracking number but there isn't one! It was first class not recorded! What can I do?

You can't do a thing since you didn't send it by a trackable method so you've basically lost your money even if the other person is making a false claim of not getting the item.

Learn from you mistake and only use recorded delivery with paypal if you don't want to be ripped off. Remember the power is heavily with the buyer on ebay these days.

This is completly rediculas I sent it, I will fight it. Paypal's helpline is a pile of **** I can't get through.

if it got lost in the post its not his fault...

if you dont have proof of delivery from the post office (and cannot get it) you have to refund him...

refund the guy, say sorry and next time remember to send it recorded..

If it got lost in the post it is your problem and you have to refund him as you didn't send it recorded. You may be able to make a claim from Royal Mail but you still have to personally refund the buyer.

Think its 14days before you can report it lost through the Royal Mail.

Companys like play won't allow refunds until it can be reported lost through the postie.

I would expect you can do the same. Take it up with the post office.

If you've got the receipt go back to the post office, file for a lost item and you may be eligible to claim up to about £30 i believe. As has been stated above (and in every single other paypal thread on these forums for god knows how long) always send by recorded delivery, it only costs a couple of quid more and saves some of the hassle.

This is entirely your fault.

You, and not your buyer, are responsible for ensuring the item reaches him. You should have offered an insured postage service, as you didnt, you are at fault for the fact it didn't arrive.

No point asking him to contact Royal Mail, YOU are the one with the contract of sale with Royal Mail.

Claim off royal mail if it hasn't turned up within 14 working days. You'll need the recipients help to make a claim so don't go upsetting him too much, oh...

Yeh had read about the lost claim for royal mail, I will be doing this seen as I did a deal with the mate for £30 inc instead of the £35+£5 postage so i will get £40 back instead so I would have got more too.

At least it is £30 and not £300.

Agreed but this really ****ed me off tbh.

to the OP its your own fault, never use non-recorded as the buyer will always say "i didnt get it" then paypal will refund them as you cant prove its arrived!

Only have yourself to be angry at, given its all your fault. Hopefully the buyer will give you negative feedback for the way you've handled everything, as a warning to future ebayers.

:D

I think the OP just needs to think about how he/she'd feel if you were in the buyer's position and the item hadn't arrived. Would you take a photo of proof of postage as an answer?

I'm suprised people still bother selling goods via PayPal then sending without a tracking number :o

Edit : Also you have no chance of winning the PayPal dispute - no point even trying really. Just wait for 15 working days then claim from Royal Mail - max you can claim is 100x face value of 1st class stamp I believe (unless this has changed?)

Paypal very clearly state when it's time to deliver what you should do to keep yourself safe. Trackable delivery is one of the conditions for seller protection.

I'm surprised people don't read.
