LOTRO to go 'free to play' in the autumn....

think you need to create account (free trial) with codemasters and when you log on to it on codemaster site you'll be able to buy life sub.

Cheers downloading the 14day trial, have an offer of £5 for the game + 30days sub etc.

is £75 worth spending? to thoes that have played it / have it

try it and if you like it then £75 = about 8 months worth of subscriptions or if you think you come back to it from time to time then i think it's worth it

ah cheers for that it makes it seem slightly worth it when you put it like that.

Does lifetime = VIP or Premium service?

VIP, forever.

Thanks M0r94n,

I tried to download the client over night but laptop/wireless fail :( doing it on the main desktop now!

Going to try and get the gf to play too (she's read all the books/watched the films) so i hope that she will like this but she feels £75 is a waste of money - don't think she understands its a pay per month game etc.

Make sure you download the EU client. I think you can do it via GamersHell. When you're in game let us know, there is a lotro kinship thread a few pages back so post your char name in there and we'll sort out a kinship invite :).

The books play a big part in the game, there was a quest that related to The Hobbit and i had no idea what it was talking about till i read somewhere that it helps if you've read the books, so i started reading them.

oh im using the codemasters downloader thing i did goto the EU website and click the 14days trial etc. Would this be the same thing?

If any of you are still deciding whether to get the lifetime sub or not, remember one thing - after it goes f2p, you'll NEVER get the opportunity to get a one-payment life sub again. I'll have to verify that with sauce when I can access games-based websites, but for now you'll have to believe me or look it up yourself.

I'd be very surprised if they offered a lifetime sub ever again. Apparently Turbine in the US stopped offering it the moment the free to play model was announced, caused a bit of an uproar on the US forums.

Right id better make my mind up soon then for the lifetime thing. As it is now with the trial its only shadows of angmar? so ill have to buy the expantions?

Yes, if you've set the account up with Codemasters you'll be downloading the EU client.

We've had a fair few people download the US client and then have to download the EU one straight after. Nice 15gb+ total download :p.

Considering I paid £100 as an earlier adaptor life sub, and the mrs (was it 150?) std one, 75 is great value.

I always thought it must kill revenue streams, I was in a kin where everyone was a lifetimer etc.

I guess the turbine store is gonna help out there too. I'm getting the feeling that 500 points a month isn't gonna be a huge amount.
