Anyone cooked any meals from scratch?

Well I think it will appeal to single people and students a lot. Because if you are cooking for one it is very expensive to buy all the ingredients because they usually aren't sold in small enough quantities!

Which is gobbled up by the profit margins of the pre-prepared-packed meal.

£5 for one nights meal as a student is pushing the boat out. I will be living on about £75~ a week when at uni I'm estimating... I'm not sure if spending about half that on dinners alone would be what I consider good value :p

Since when was five quid a meal cheap?

exactly, if you are going to do that get the veg chop it and add one of teh supermarkets own sauces. It'll be 1/4 of the price.
Probably less. £5 is very overpriced.. it's more than sourcing your own stuff and it's even more than ready meal versions - so where's the benefit?

I'd rather source the ingredients myself.

too lazy to shop but not lazy enough to cook it? odd concept for me.

Me too.

Looking at £5.00 for a Jambalaya for one

I made a proper Jamabalaya from scratch with Chicken and Chorizo for just over £7.00 the other week. That was enough for a family of three to share at a BBQ then a main meal the next night with a big portion size.

£5.00 for one serving or £7.00 for six bigger portions, hmmm let me think about that one ;)

to cook a thai red curry from scratch, first you need to create your universe...
