Need my PC a lot quieter

Hello,

My PC turns on in the night to record freeview.

However, at the moment it's a bit noisier than I'd like it, here are the things that make noise.

XFX HD4830
Coolermaster 460w PSU
2 x Coolermaster case fans (came with the Elite 330)
HD2400 Pro (for powering my other two monitors)
92mm Antec Tricool on my Thermalright Ultima 90 (I'm positive it isn't this)
640gb Samsung Spinpoint (I'm positive it isn't this)
500gb WD Blue (I'm positive it isn't this)

Suggestions? Want it quiet as can be for £50.

Thanks,

Matt

Reach in and stop each fan until you notice the noisiest one, then either slow that down or replace. Most likely noise culprits are Graphics card, PSU, CPU fan, case fan (although the stock fans in the elite I built for my M is quite quiet). Hard drives vibrate and can be annoying, you could suspend with elastic bungee cord.

The default fan spin on my 4890 is high, so I use MSI afterburner to spin it slower.

I suppose it depends on what you consider silent.

Stop the PSU fan with something like a cable tie or two, they aren't driven with a massive amount of force. If the GPU is the major culprit and slowing it down doesn't help then you could look at aftermarket coolers, there are some nice cheap ones available, although for near silence you'll need deep pockets.

dunno about the 2400's niose levels, but id imagine that fan is quite small (hence potentially noisy). 2400's can be passivly cooled really easily, but im not sure where to get an aftermarket cooler for one of them from though

Hmm, That's a thought. I haven't stopped that yet as I can't reach it unfortunately, will pull it out later.

Could try better quieter fans and use rubber mounts for every case fan or those rubber brackets.

Try and soft mount or figure out some way of hdd dampening.

My Mum has one of the CM 330 type cases and I noticed recently that at 12v stock speed they are pretty noisy. You could undervolt them by using the molex trick, a fan controller, or by motherboard controls (depending on motherboard options).

Pretty much any standard fan at 12v is unbearably loud but when slowed down will become silent in amongst the rooms ambient noise. It'll push less air of course and will cause a rise in temps.

I use a combination of fan controller, motherboard header and speedfan and resistors to slow my fans down.

Another method to determine highest noise source is to stop all fans and then start the PC. Release a fan and listen for the noise output. Just be careful with gpu and CPU coolers and don't hold them too long.
