How long before you get annoyed?

So, the Focus ST broke on Tuesday, in a rather comical (and unusual fashion..)

Drove to work on the morning, fine, drove home at 3pm, all fine. Park it on my drive, turn the ignition off. Windscreen wipers start going at 200 wpm (wipes per min ;)) and left indicator goes. Being a little on the tired side it didn't suddenly click, so I sit trying playing with the indicator and wiper stalks thinking I'd knocked them accidentally.

Then it clicked...why would the indicators and wipers work when the ignition is OFF? Bugger.

Turned ignition on again, start engine, wipers stop, indicator stops, all fine. Wipers and indicators work as normal. Turn ignition off again....you can tell where I'm going with this ;)

So, the ST has been with the stealer since Tuesday evening. To their credit they called me on Wednesday to say they've ordered some module and that should fix it. Get a call today to say they've fitted the module. It still does it.

To quote the guy on the phone, he's calling to "get some info about if you'd washed it recently, or if you'd done any other work to it immediately before it broke, as we're scratching our heads a bit" :o

Ooops. So back to my question, how long is too long for them to not find out what's up?

What is the point at which you'd be getting annoyed with them? :cool:
 
Would appear there is a short somewhere thats causing it or the system isnt earthed correctly.

I had an odd problem like this with my old Focus, on that the boot kept unlocking itself and out fly open when accelerating.

It turned out to be a short in the wiring around the boot hinge. I would get the stealers to check the wiring as thats the most likely culprit, but bare in mind if its not under warranty it could be costly. As its the wipers and indicators, I would be looking at the wiring in the dash/engine bay area.

I'd probably start by taking the fuses out one by one to see which circuit killed it, but I'm no auto-electrician.

Can only assume they have the brains to do this, and work back from there.

Must admit it does sound like a short circuit somewhere, but how it happened so randomly is a bit annoying :confused:

Due to this sounding like an electrical issue they can take a while to locate to be honest, so I wouldn't be turning the screws after only a couple of days. Do you have anything in place to keep you on the road in the mean time?

A mate of mine has a vanilla ~07 Focus that cooked the wiring loom, this took over two months to get back on the road :eek:

Good luck mate you gotta have faith that it's in the best place!
 
...and she's back!

For anybody who's interested, it was the clockspring that had shorted. Replaced under warranty and all is well :cool:
