Seems the place to ask :p

What are they really like on fuel, I mean like, really and how reliable are they? Belt or chain? Where do they tend to rust?

I have a pretty sour taste of an RWD experiance with a Nissan S14a so i'm tempted to try RWD again and i've never owned a 6 cylinder before so I could kill two birds

I would be looking around the £5.5K mark, Saloon or Coupe but would really like sports suspension and 17's as standard as thats the main thing I like about BMW you get everything standard if you go for the right model, what kind of year would I be looking at for that kind of money, 2002 at least I hope?

I prefer NA over boost and I dont really want another Honda after owning so many so any info greatly recieved

I thought the 325 was 170 and the 328 was 190BHP variations of the 2.5L straight six? I didnt realise that stopped in 2000. I'm confused now, dont want a 330 thats for sure, need to read up some more obviously

10 years ago if anyone told me i'd be really interested in a beemer at 30 i'd of told em to take a running jump.

But the 330ci is a lovely car, im just waiting for the right spec to come along so i can snap it up!

Exactly, i've been a Honda head for nearly ten years with a few other things in between but my modding days are over I want everything as standard

Ok bear with me, I am assuming a 330 is a 3.0 but i'm wrong arnt I, is it a 2.5? Not sure why I always thought it was a 3.0 if so because I know the 328 was a 2.5

What kind of power does a 325 have 2002 on, 170BHP for a 2.5 straight six just seems a little weak I would like a bit more than that

I would look into this a bit more but i'm at work and only just have time to check the forum

What an odd thread. The 328 is a 2.8 and the 330 is a 3.0. Anything that puts you off a 330 ie costs applies equally to a 328 or 325.

Now I really am confused and need to go back to square one and read up. I dont really want anything over a 2.5, I for some reason thought a 325 was a 2.5 170 and the 328 was a 2.5 190

Where I have got that info from I have no idea

I always thought the 328 was 2793cc and therefore a 2.8.

Edit: as Fox has confirmed above

The running cost is nearly the same for the 2.5/2.8/3.0. I had a the 2.5 170BHP in my 323 and it was great.. very smooth, refined and progressive engine.

323i was 170, 328i was 193 PS
The 325i and 330i which replaced them were 192 and 231 PS respectively.
The 320i then became a 2.2 with 170.

Either way, as everyone stated numerous times above, all three 6 cylinder petrols will have roughly the same running costs.
If that puts you off then get a 318Ci, if you can live with 143 PS and a single exhaust pipe :p

It's going to be that bad. If you can't afford to run a 330 you can't afford to run a 325 as they are no more economical.

I get 20mpg on short town trips.

Thats a bit to much for me most of my driving is town driving and I do have to make some kind of sensible decision.

The 2.2 320 looks interesting though with 170BHP and 8 to 60, might be worth having a go in one when I eventually shift my car
