45-50 in a 40

Now I am often accused of being a goody goody but if the limit is 40 then why not just stick to 40 rather than deciding that in your opinion 50 is fine. Never quite understood why some people need to go faster than the displayed limits, but as I say I am often called a rule follower in life rather than breaker. I honestly can't recall exceeding the speed limit in any of the decades I have been on the roads, have just never seen why I would need to.

I don't need to break the speed limit. Similarly, I don't need to obey it. It just happens that the former is breaking the law.

When you go from a 30 limit in to a 40 limit, why don't you stay at 30? You don't need to do 40. That extra 10 mph isn't going to get you there a great deal sooner, so why not stay at 30?

I have no reason for breaking the speed limit when I do, other than I'm driving to the conditions of the road rather than an arbitrary number printed on a sign. If you think that number will keep you safe then great, good for you. Having said this, I fully accept my punishment for when I get caught and at no point will I argue against the punishment. I broke the law fair and square.

Funnily enough I do sometimes stay at 30 :)

I don't think that staying at the arbitrary sign number will keep me safe, its simply that the law says that is the limit so I stay at that limit or below. I just don't have any need or desire to break the limit. Can't really see the point. Just me of course.

Dont think ive ever really been in a rush on the road, if its 30 / 40 i'll stay near the limit, 50 creep towards 55 but National is a bit more lax :\

You could go all anal in court and argue because they accused you of going a certain 'speed' and not 'velocity' then you have no direction as speed only has a magnitude whereas velocity is magnitude and direction. Then you could be like they failed to specify the inertial frame of reference.. or you could not.

I'll exceed the 40mph limit on some of the roads locally as I can remember when they weren't 40mph limits but derestricted. I apply the same logic to some of the 50's round here as well. Most of them have very few hazards but have been reduced due to local youth crashing, mainly due to unsuitable speeds/lack of skill but also inexcess of the previous limit.

Same, but I like to do them in full view of the law so I know I'm doing it right.

Love,

The Bandit

You are 32 seconds too early, otherwise that would have been one of the most awesome pictures, ever.

Am I too late to the party?

I had just finished overtaking someone if that counts? He flashed me tons and I thought "what a **** for flashing someone who overtakes". I realise now he was flashing to warn me of the camera van on the flyover :o

EDIT: Yes, there were photos without "TIMEOUT" on, before anyone asks :p

Is that a sat nav or are you giving a thumbs up :D?

You have to feel sory for bikers being caught like this, as most bikes are so throttle responsive that with the slightest whiff of the gas the bikes speed can easily change by 5-10mph in the blink of an eye.

Sadly when your speeding and crossing double white lines, they dont give you a picture, just a fine :(

On a side note, does anyone know if your supposed to send off both parts of your license when you get points ? I currently have no driving license other than the slip of paper (with the penalty notice on) which

a. i have lost.

b. i got offered a job driving stuff around but i feel a bit stupid giving them a driving license that shows 3 weeks ago i got done for crossing double whites (about 2 meters up the road from dashed whites).

Pretty sure I read somewhere a while ago that this is no longer the case. :(

It has never been the case. The confusion occurs because of an old government policy which allowed a part of fines to returned to the Camera partnerships if the cameras were signposted, brightly coloured etc. Police/councils could still use cameras without all that, but they didn't get their share of the money. There has never been any purely legal reason to have warning signs: why would it necessary to have warning signs telling you not to break the law?

I am currently waiting to see if I am going to be done for breezing through a Truvelo doing an indicated 47mph in a 40, it is a nervewracking time especially since the kent police website states they follow ACPO guidlines (so 46mph) and my speedo is accurate to 1mph on my GPS.

I think you'll find that most regular riders know what speed they're doing far better - I can feel the engine speed and gear and will instinctively know quite accurately what speed I'm dong. Certainly at the speeds we're talking about here anyway.

Did it flash as you? If not your in the clear.

So this forward facing camera caught you on your bike with no forward facing plate?

Yep, the operator can make a note of the index number but most are fitted with time indexed cameras on the front and sides.
