anyone work in occupational therapy?

considering doing a degree in occupational therapy with a view to going into physical rehabilitation. would anyone here be able to give me some advice on this?

What do you need to know? I used to work with OTs a lot (as a hospital social worker) and one of my best friends is an OT

the stresses of it really. hours and pressure. if i could handle those i believe i may be suited to this

I asked her neway;

she said "normally physical rehab is regular hours", she doesnt know much about that particular area as shes never done it.

thanks. research is showing me it's a standard hours week but with weekends and evenings often necessary as is travel to patients. it's more the psychological aspect of peoples feelings i feel a little unease at. i'm in the construction industry atm so it's a world apart but therapy is something i feel i would be quite taken to

Basically you will be able to pick and choose referrals at your leisure. (this is my experience)

The whole book took me 2 years on and off.
A story the OT's always tell is that if you can get on the side where you invent things, that's where the money is.

Most of it's 9-5, but some residential places might have some unsocial hours. Mostly 9-5 I'd say though.

Stress wise, you're likely to have a heavy case load and very busy nearly all the time. This is community OT and hospital, not sure about other settings. Hospital is totally manic from my experience.

You could always try to get a job as a Therapy Assistant to give you an idea what it's like.
