Hi guys

Im in the process at looking at new cars and sorting out insurance for it. But, one question from the insurance companies kind of confuses me.

Its in regards to How long ive had my license verses NCB's

I got my licenese when I was 16 when I was driving a 50cc motorbike. I then in April 2007 started learning to drive a car. In October 2007 I passed (first time;)). My insuarance policies have always been in my own name and ive never been a named driver. Now its 2010 and im on the phone to insurers one conversation goes:

How long have you held your license: "2 years"
How many NCB's? "3 years"
How have you got 3 years NCB when you have had your license for 2 years? "Add my time as a learner"

And on some insurance sites they wont take my 3 years NCB unless i put my license held time at 3 years instead of 2?

Confusing yes, what do I do?

Matt

Ok ignore the bike i was just explaining thats when i started to drive etc.

Say i started to drive in April 2007 on a provisional and in october 2007 i passed with a full UK. When the insurance company asks how long have you held your license is it from april or october there asking from?

I thought i would have been from october 2007 as thats when I got my full license. But some insurance sites wont take the 3 years NCB for having a full UK license for 2 years. Even thoe i started builidng up NCB's when i first started driving on a provisial in April.

I thought you didn't earn NCB until you held a full licence.

Hence why you get an error whilst doing it on the wbesite.

Have you tried speaking to someone with an English call centre to explain you had insurance when you started to lern in April 2007?

Also have you got your policy document from 2008 to state you have earned 1 years no claim bonus?

You earn NCB if the policy is in your name, license type doesn't matter. Aviva even ask for the time you've held a license, be it provisional or full. So I've had mine for 6 years, but passed ~5 3/4 years ago.

^ that would be lieing ;).

My reknew documents all said 3 years NCB and so does the certificate. I guess i will ring the insurers tommorow.

Some places don't like accepting these as a proper years NCB though.

That's utter rubbish. At the end of it you get a piece of paper that says you have xNCB. It does not state how long it took you to occur the NCB, as far as your new insurance co would be concerned it's a full 12 months.

A friend used one of these about 4 years ago for his first year of driving, at the end the only company that would accept his NCB was the company who had given it to him.

Might have changed now or just been a dodgy case.

5 years ago mine was accepted by a different company, and my latest one (did 10 months due to accident removing all previous NCB), and have been given a certificate stating 1NCB, nothing about 10 months. :)

most insurance companies will ask for the time you held your license meaning if you got a full license, how many years or if your on a prov. license how long you held that license for, not both added together
