Flippin' ink!

I suppose the owner of the white house will be lodging a complaint with the council & getting the whole thing shut down? Oh hang on, it's not Britain is it........

Housey old bean you really need to get up to the Laws and check out their Jaguar XJRs :D

I was at Donington a few years ago and Justin had one of his there (owns the '88 and '90 winners). I can't remember if it was the XJR9 or XJR12 that he had there that day but my ears & bones can certainly remember the V12 noise as it stonked down craners and co :D :D :D

That is incredible! I have never heard Le Mans race cars before, what sort of engines would this era of cars be using?
Group C was literally anything you liked as long as it could run within the fuel restrictions. Jaguar ran 6 & 7 litre V12s, Porsche had turbo flat 6s, Sauber ran turbo V8s, Mazda had four rotor ****els.....

Heh, didn't know ****el fell foul of the forum checker. Hey ho.

But yes, that era was pretty much the golden era for engine design variety at the pointy end of the 24 Heures du Mans. And it sounded glorious :D

I think he's the son(?) with epic sideburns but he does know how to pedal. I've seen him blatting his Group C and older Saloon cars a few times. Group C was so good, just ace compared to the current generation. I NEVER missed a single international Group C race in the UK and I think I caught most of the British C2's too. With Group 5/6 the Group C cars were and remain the greatest cars I ever saw race. F1 is F1, but Group C always captivated me more.

Back in the day :)

I swear the best 3 years of sport and motorsport were 1988=1990! phenominal videos :)

I did Le Mans in 1989 and 1990, it was at its Group C peak then without question. We had works teams from Jaguar, Aston Martin, Mercedes, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and they all ran at least 3 cars each bar Aston plus all of the private cars including some top teams running Porsche 962's. Then you had Group C2 with Spices, ARD's, Eccoses, Tigers and loads more, all running DFV's, Rover 6R4 lumps and a whole host of other turbo stuff. Grids packed, all hitting over 200mph down the straight and Mercs hitting 245mph and the WM Pug hitting 249mph, though this was crap at anywhere else and was built to do 400kmh on the straight and simply melted its engine when it did so as they closed off the cooling vents to make it get there!!!

I really feel sorry for those who never got to see Group C in its prime with some of the worlds best wringing their necks. In the 80's you often still got top GP drivers racing them too!

I read the other week that Nissan in the first year of chicanes in 1990 was still hitting 237mph between the chicanes! I mentioned this to Tim Harvey at the weekend and he said they simply shortened the gearing to get the cars to speed quicker as they never needed to gear them for the straight and 2 miles at top speed!

Here is Mark Blundells pole lap in 1990. The Nissan was the quickest car in the place in 1990, sadly didn't have the reliability of the Jags and Mercs however. Fair to say he was trying!

That is just plain epic.
