Asus rampage III Extreme

12GB Corsair Dominator

Hi,

Is anyone having issues running all 6 slots of ram.

I have 12GB corsair dominator 2000MHz and I can only see 8GB. I have tried lowering frequency to 1333MHz but still no joy.

CPU-z can see 12GB installed but BIOS and windows wont see it

Cheers
Chris

hi chris,

Im having the same problems using the same memory but ony 3 modules and the motherboard only detecting 4gb instead of 6gb. May be something to do with qpi/dram voltage or voltage frequency but im not touching that as im not experienced. Anyone got any ideas how to do this?

Try removing the cpu and reseating it in the socket. Also, have you tried lowering timings to check if the ram is detected properly.

For RAM problems try "Memory Configuration Protect" "Enabled" in the BIOS as it worked with the guy in this vid when it would only detect 16GB or his 24GB :)

I turned this on but still nothing, still 4gb. The guy in the video wasnt using the same ram as me aswel. Asus need to get this sorted out. They build a nice new board and some of the top memory out doesnt even run in it....

Do they normaly bring out bio updates on motherboards for memory compatibility after release date?

I really had my hopes up there. Just tried it but it didnt work. :(

my board finally arrived in dubai :D, am gonna grab a case and a vga soon and get to work. just a little q my ROG log seems to be miss oriented, any tips on how i can turn it or fix it ?

ps: that NB hs is very big :P

I think i may have destroyed mine already. I had all my memory in and now it doesnt work. It boots but no display... either that or my graphics card doesnt work. Keyboard and mouse also are not working. Any ideas? Is it dead? lol

Ok regarding cold boot up I found out what it was rather than power off just pull out your mouse USB and plug it back in it worked for me . I did not have to restart the pc manually. I know it's a pain but better than forcing it to shut down and the restarting.Hope this works for you malkaiven

nope mine still aint working. Cold boot problem. The dram led is also lighting up so im guessing its not working due to the ram. Maybe the ram damaged it? have to check with some other memory. So far my combination of hardware is not doing well for the rampage iii extreme...

Maybe if i reset bios that will help. Anyone know how to do this with no display?

Thanks. Now I'm thinking as the board is going into an 800D case, which has 3 120mm top exhaust fans, I would like to position the cooler with the fans blowing upwards (2 apaches in push/pull). So I would also have to consider if the bottom fan would foul the boards chipset sinks ?

I had a look at the slot next to the cpu:

You may just squeeze a ram stick in there.

The fan will not go over the stick with the fin attached and may have to be raised slightly when it’s removed.

Any reason for 12GB, are you doing video editing?

As to the fans blowing upwards, you will have the push fan getting restricted and warm air coming up from the graphics card. The ram will also be covered by the cooler. I would have the push/pull setup blowing out through the rear and not the top.

There are dip switches to disable graphics cards. Is it possible that one of them was knocked disabling the card?

Wow, thanks for your help mate. Much appreciated.

Yes, I do video editing on an amateur basis. I'd probably get away with 6gigs, but heh, I have the memory now so may as well use it. I also run a lot of VM's. I'm sure it probably helps.

thanks again

Flanno damn man, what do you do with your pc? A 980x and 2 x sapphire 59704gb versions. What are VM's?

The build is now complete with the three fans in the top of 800D:

The temperatures are from around the case.

With the 980X @ 3.4GHz and memory @ 2000MHz with a Venomous X (push/pull):

Motherboard 36 °C (97 °F)
CPU 37 °C (99 °F)

Hey mate, I have a similar LG drive, fan controller and X-Fi bay as you ;)
The charcoal dvdrw sort of ruins your look a bit. Nice temps by the way.

I have the latest EVGA bios installed (not got my Rampage yet), and my Dominators will either do 1866 or 2133 or something. No multiplier to select an even 2000.
