Cost of living (Water, Elec, Gas)

2 people in a 2 bedroom terrace - 2 PC's running most of the time, electric shower, electric oven.

Gas: £20
Electric: £30
Water: £25

Two living in a 3 bed house
3 tv's, 2 computers
2 showers a day
Gas boiler, gas cooker/oven

We are averaging
12kWH of elec a day
22kWh of gas a day

However when it's cold and heating is on that goes up to about
14kWH for elec (no idea why)
60kWh for gas

Which equates to £55ish a month in summer and £80ish in winter

water is one of charge so we are very lucky there.

You do know that they can still fine you for not having an TV license as you have internet which is capable of watching TV.

My mate at uni got stung by this and didnt have a leg to stand on.

No they can't, its only if you are watching live TV broadcasts that they can do you for it..

That can't be right.

My area charges 88p for 1 cubic metre of water, which is 1,000 litres.

A large cistern will only hold about 9 litres.

Wastewater charges are 54p per 1,000 litres.

So let's say the cistern is 10 litres, 100 flushes would cost 88p + 54p.
100 flushes is therefore £1.42, or £0.0142 per flush.

Depends how big you log is

It might take 50 flushes after a big night out!

I pay £105 PM along with my flatmate who pays £105 a month also, or so I believe. Because our water bill is being backdated because they did'nt charge us for a year or so. But looking at this thread makes me wonder if I'm being taken for a ride in terms of what my bills should be, and what I actually get asked to pay for.

At the moment I pay for

Internet - Virgin Media 10MB with Phone I think £20 PM?
Water - Backdated but not sure
Electric - Not sure but I'm proper one for turning all unnecessary electrical items off :D

Does this sound like were paying out far too much?

As was said, it's not the capability, it's the actual doing of it. You just need to not watch LIVE TV on it :)

read in the times supplement today that the BRS or somebody has predicted that the average family will be paying £5000 per year for energy by 2020.

2.5 people here. (0.5 being a 10month old baby) - also live in MK :)
i pay
£70 gas/elec
£35 water (now gone up to £50, due to the baby's baths!) - my wife is not one for saving water
£98 council tax.

The baby really added to my bills so you should be a good few ££ under that! + the wife really has no sense of any sort of energy saving.

I'm in Old Stratford, the rates are very reasonable I've found.
If you budget stays as your estimate you will be fine and live a comfortable life.
