A guy that owns a local business that I deliver to (work for parcelforce) had his evo out today and was just about to take off when I jumped in the passenger seat and asked him to take me a run.

I get on really well with him know that the car was primarily bought for the track. Ill not pretend to know anything about cars but my god this was impressive.

The industrial instate where I work is basically a giant oval circuit, as we headed towards the 1st bend he told me he would take it easy until the car warmed up, we went round the bend and then woooooosssshhhhhhhhhh

I have been riding bikes for years but the acceleration took me by complete surprise, it was unbelievable. I started to get really nervous as we approached the next bend at over well over 100mph, then the brakes kicked in, the stopping power nearly put me through the front window :)

All in all a scary but exhilarating run. I had to get into my mondeo LX to drive home :(

I think the scary thing to remember is that in the world of tuned Turbo nutter Jap cars, 400BHP ain't even that much :D.

On the road there is no way to use that kind of power legally. These cars belong on a track.

Hmmm if only I could afford one.

The first time is a bit of a buzz isn't it!

Though TBH I've never lost the thrill. After re-building the Westfield from a year of not much I'd completely forgotten how fast it is!

Key moments I'll always remember are Dad's Prodrive Impreza STi (company car :p), first Westfield I ever went in, when Dad's Westfield hit 500bhp/ton, friends E60 M5, friends Ultima.

Guess that being a biker the way decent cars can scrub speed off and carry speed through the twisties was surprising :p.

Big time about the biker comment.

I ride a big fat 2ltr cruiser that is all torque and doesn't really like corners. In the evo its as if we were on rails. My brain is still trying to process it all :)

I'll say the same thing I said to my father when I bought the Soarer - There are no rules on how quickly you can reach the speed limit ;).

I think you'll find that many of the people with 'quick' modified cars are more interested in the acceleration/cornering/braking side of things rather than out and out sheer Top Speed.

Who said anything about empty? It was going home time so plenty of people about.

When I said about them belonging on a track I meant that was the ideal place for them, as in the most fun/least risk.

I love OCUK

You *yawn* because I wasn't outside a school doing 100mph but have a go for doing 100mph in an industrial estate.

I wasn't driving BTW.

This guy knew what he was doing btw, he is on a track every weekend so can handle a car.

i yawned at you saying it should be kept to the track.

thinking the driver had been entirely sensible driving round a nice quiet secluded industrial estate and that you'd over reacted.

turns out you hadnt and the guy who was driving you about was being a bit of an eejit.

I said it belongs on a track as in the only way to legally realise its true potential. While I was bricking it in the passenger seat no doubt the driver just seen it as an average run out, the man has skills I tell ye.

Not sure i agree on the sentiment it was ok because he's got skills. But still, you werent driving so its pointless debating it.

Well the reason I was bricking it was because there was about 20 places a car could have just popped out of :) Im just saying he didn't seem too bothered, pretty sure he knew i was terrified though.

True enough: at 400bhp you're still an amateur. 500bhp buys you mid-range kudos; "big power" means 600+, and nutter power is over 800bhp.

Exactly. You know how it is when you get stuck behind some numpty doing 45 in a 60, and the road is never straight for long enough for you to get past? Well, it is for us.

Try putting up next to a police car at the lights and flooring it until you hit the speed limit and see if your statement is true.

(my mate did this years ago and got pulled for driving without due care or something similar - can't remember the exact reason)

I believe the charge is "Furious Driving"? Unless the copper saw wheel spin or waggling, in which he would probably go for "Not being in Proper Control".
