E46 3 Series, talk to me!

No, no he isn't.

SMGII is worth owning, SSG really really isn't. For starters it's retardedly slow.

In sport mode when you are pushing it, it can change gear MUCH faster than any human could in a normal manual. I grant you it has it's problems, but from someone who has drives manual, auto and SSG on a regular basis, I prefer the SSG every time.

Pros:
Car has done 80,000 miles with no problems so far.
It's nice and smooth when just chilling.
It's very quick when pushing it.

Cons:
'Auto' mode is not very good. Can change gear at odd times.
Reliability problems - luckily I have been ok so far.
Takes a bit of getting used to.

Sorry, but you are talking utter tripe!!

I'm not, no. I appreciate your purchase justification syndrome won't allow you to see this though, especially as everyone advised against it and you bought it anyway, but SSG in the E46 is a poor system and it's difficult to think of a reason to recommend it.

The manual is a better manual, the auto is a better auto, SSG in this form is just not good.

SMG2 is much better, and DCT is a world better.

Will have to agree to disagree then, seeing as I drive it everyday and I like it.....
