Oblivion GotY from Steam - Post your Steam friendly mods here!

I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to all the mods people use with the Steam version of Oblivion GotY edition.

I've started this thread as I've just bought it and I've read that Steam can cause problems with mods so lets post all the useful ones that work.

If people post the links I'll try and keep this first post updated to make it easy for everyone to see what they all are. :)

Where do we start?
Firstly, there are differing versions of Oblivion and as mods have been released (and possibly not updated) they seem to work with different versions. For those of us who have bought the Steam GotY editions our version is 1.2.0416
You can find it by looking in you steam directory structure: Steam -> Steamapps -> common -> Oblivion - find Oblivion.exe - right click -> properties -> details - tells you the version there.

Unofficial Patches - general bug fixes etc. - EDIT - for me it says these files 'don't exist' if I use Firefox (noscripts allowed) IE works though
Unofficial Oblivion patch
Additional Oblivion patch
Unofficial Shivering Isles patch

Where can I find mods or get them from?
There are a number of place:
TESNexus is by far the biggest - it crashed yesterday with the amount of people trying to download mods!
Oblivion at Planet Elder Scrolls Gamespy - another good site, I used to get mods from it for the non Steam version.
Oblivion Wiki - Must Have Mods - the title says it all really, gives lots of information on must have mods.
Oblivion Modders Resource - thanks to Razor-BladE for posting the link :D

Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) - in all honestly, I'm not sure exactly what this does but some mods require it.
How to get it working with the Steam version of Oblivion here

That's a good idea, I will do as I go along.

I'm putting more into the thread as I type, won't be long!

I should note guys that I DON'T have all the info - I've made this thread as there is so little info about what works with Steam and what doesn't, so please research, install, test and post your results here!

I'll update the first post and give credit for everyone who finds something that works!

Thanks for making this thread, I just purchased Oblivion GOTY from steam and would like to improve the visuals a little.

I get massive stuttering in this game, is there a fix/improvement for that?

Already have Oblivion but none of the add-ons so was thinking of getting it but I fear it will still be as bad as it was before with stability. I tried the OOO mod before but crashes were so frequent I just got fed up. Was a shame because it was such a good improvement on the vanilla game. Don't think it was the mods fault as the game but pretty unstable anyway. This was like well over a year ago though so it has properly been improved.

How many GB is the download from Steam? Need to see if my weedy 1Mbit connection will cope first.

ooo or francesco mod are pretty cool, marts monster mod is good too plus hundreds or smaller mods

darker dungeons/nights is essential if you ask me.

For graphics you want -

Improved LOD textures (4096x4096)
Qualrs texture pack (huge 3+ Gb download)
Natural Environments (better weather / tree graphics and lighting effects)

Those are the three main ones you need to use, then you can go searching for other stuff too, like better sky textures.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

If you have the links can you post them please and I'll add them to the OP, make it easy for everyone.

Thanks! :D

I bought Oblivion GofY as soon as the offer came out, haven't had chance to even load it up yet, really looking forward to getting it fully tweaked and ready to go!

*More excited than it's reasonable to be over a three year old game*

Hum I managed to cause Oblivion to crash by adding some of these in, just a reminder to people to back up your oblivion folder before messing around with it. Re-downloading now, I'm going to add 1 thing at a time...

ooo is a must it has hundreds of improvements, think it also creates a more static world where creatures are not leveled to match yours - go to the wrong place at the wrong time and you get wtfpwned :D which is how it should've been originally.

MMM and unique landscapes are both excellent. There's also a mod that loads cities into memory so they are no longer instanced, it requires a hefty pc but improves immersion - thinks it's open cities or something.

Deadly reflex is a brilliant mod that adds new combat moves, slo-mo finishers with decapitation etc. probably my fave mod

Hrm anyone else got an Asus Xonar D1? I think my audio drivers are causing this to crash? Disabling sound makes everything run fine... off to re-enable onboard sound to see if that works..

Now I have things sorted - could someone in the know please give an outline as to whether FCOM is really worth the hassle? It seems quite complicated to get installed? I might just install Francesco's levelled creatures and MMM... OOO sounds a bit over the top?
