It's new car time in Loamland but I've not bought a car since 1998 which is my current golf tdi (bless it, still running fine and we are keeping it). I've found and reserved the car we want, but is there anything I should be doing with regards getting checks done ?. It's from an authorised VAG dealer and comes with all the usual warrenties. In addition its a sep 09 car with 3500 miles on it, do I need to get additional checks done ?

Sorry I'm such a noob when it comes to cars, they don't really do it for me so I find it hard to be bothered but don't want a melon.

It's a steal tbh fox, it's rammed out with extras with low miles on it.

So additional checks?

I can't really imagine there's much to check to be honest apart from what you can see.
It's still well within warranty and not even a year old.

It's barely run in, so take it for a proper drive and keep an ear out for anything untoward.

I'd also say haggle, but considering that they're just begining to drop under £20k, you've probably done the best you can to get a low mileage, good spec 9 month old DSG one for under £20k.

Goodo then, it's nice to know that's it's a case of drive it and pay :)
the car before the golf was a mk2 mr2 (96) which was great fun but had to go when I moved to notts, the golf has been purely functional and has done us proud for 12 years but it's time for a fun car again.

Neither can I tbh, it's taken a while to talk myself into it after needing a new car for the last 12 months, buying cars was easy when I lived up in Stokesley (nr you :p) with my parents

It's cause cars aren't my thing, it's wierd tbh but I rarely see a car and think "oooh that's nice, want" but the scirocco was one of those times, I decided I had to have one.

I realise there are no doubt better cars for the money but it would be like buying a pair of pants that didn't fit.

Oh and it's not new, the price for a new one of the same spec was 27k

Out of curiosity has anyone had the opportunity to try VW's new(ish) DSG auto gearbox? What are they like? Sound pretty good on paper, just wonder how they compare to a bog standard automatic.

id go for it , being that new there isnt much that can really be a problem with it if the stealers are any good , just go get it and enjoy it :)
