LOTRO to go 'free to play' in the autumn....

But isnt it pay to play with a cash shop instead of fees like DDO?

In DDO I paid £80 and got all the content, thats worth it as opposed to paying fees for several years.

DDO was really short though, I've played through everything on 4 different characters. I just like to be able to go back and login whenever I like and play a bit when I feel like it without having to pay fees.

I already have DDO + LOTRO on Codemasters as well, I gave up on them after recieving horrible coverage and disconnects every 5 seconds, with their CS doing nothing but blaming my ISP which worked in every other game, and I called them and they said they do not block any data from any game or website, that they had no idea why LOTRO wasnt working and that they had been recieving several complaints about that one particular game.

Codemasters literally told me to get a new ISP while I were on a £5.99 per month sub (just paid for 3 months then cancelled, game connection was terrible, no fun, and I lost my £5.99 offer). Stuff them, I can play on Turbine instead now.

That's an issue i've never heard of before, but obviously isolated incidents make them a terrible company

No, it was a widespread problem on the Codemasters forum back when I were playing, there were lots and lots of people at the time when I were playing that were having it, and Codemasters would only reply to everyone with 'Get a new ISP'.

People were calling up their ISPs and writing what they said on the forums as well, codemasters CM and technical support response to everyone having the problem was still 'Its your ISP's fault, get a new ISP', while fees were already taken and paid for.

Not in fees no...but not "free 2 play" either. Kind of somewhere in between. Perhaps more like nf2p (no fee 2 play)

If it has a system like DDO, then it could be free to play where you can unlock cash shop points in game, just at a slow and grindy rate.

also, as long as you can log in and play the game without paying any fees, that to me in the sense of MMOs is what FTP means.

In that case LOTRO has been FTP for ages, just download the 14 day trial, play totally free, then at the end of the 14 days, download the trial again, play for another 14 days. Ad Infinitum. FTP

:p

So warhammer online is also a FTP game? Because it has an unlimited free trial does it not?

Bit the bullet last night and got the Lifetime Sub. Figured since I've already bought Mines of Moria, and it's supposedly the 50-60 stomping ground, it'd be stupid of me not to.

Erm, no. You cant carry on playing on the same account. Its only free to play for 14 days and then you cant carry on from where you left off.

Having one account and being able to log in and play whenever you want is what people consider free to play when it comes to MMOs, such as in games like Guild Wars, DDO, Battleforge, Maplestory, and any of those.

Wait, lifetime sub is only £75 ?????? BUYING IF TRUE!!!!

But thats on codemasters right? Never mind, I bought it, £75 for lifetime Lotro is great.

Reinstalling game, I dont have the expansions yet though.

Ah well you didn't specify that it had to be the same account :)

What I consider free to play is when there is no need to pay anything in order to see the whole game. Otherwise its, as I say, more nf2p than f2p

I believe so yes, as far as I am aware Turbine had the same offer for the US but ceased offering that deal when they announced f2p

It wasnt available on turbine, so I just got it on codemasters. I'm looking for a good price on the expansions now.

Hmmmm, the moneys been taken and I have a transaction on my paypal account, but my COG account says 'next payment due today', and still has a 'reactivate subscription' button.

Is that right?

Don't know about paypal I'm afraid, but it took my credit card payment straight away and I was able to immediately log on.

The triple pack special edition has both expansions and the shared bank + 2 character slots for £35, but I just want the expansion packs, and you can probably get those at £10 each and buy the shared account thing for a fiver on top.

They should have an offer for people just needing the expansions :(

Are you starting from scratch again? If so you could always just not bother with the expansions yet, play and level up and then use your free monthly shop points to get the expansions for free from the shop when it goes "f2p"

Oh, thats a great idea, Yea, I only have a character around level 15, but will just start again.

I find that I am banned on the codemasters forum for no reason specified, even though I werent for the 3 months that I initially had a sub. Lulz
