I'm Considering a return to PC gaming.
Been with the Xbox360 since launch but the new games are now looking a bit tired what with V-sync and low texture issues.

Looked on the overclockers shop site and spotted a cheap card:

EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1024MB £103 ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-100-EA&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1402 )

If i dropped this card in the following PC ( not purchased yet ) £500

Inspiron™ 580 MT(D005806)
Intel® Core™ i3 Processor 530 (2.93GHz, 4MB)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit - English
Nvidia ® GeForce G310 512MB graphics card
4096MB Dual Channel DDR3 [4x1024] Memory
750GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive

I'd be running at or around the 1360 X 768 res ( 26" sony ).

what games for my new £600 setup with 4 X AA and 8 X AF can i expect to be running with V-sync enabled ?

PS- mostly play FPS but like all sorts of games.

Cheers for any help :)

Might want to head over to the Graphics Card forum, they'll advise you better on the GPU.

ATI seems to be the king at the moment, 5770 and 5850 seems to be popular..

As for Xbox360 low res textures and v-sync issues, PS3 isn't any better in that regards as I too found out... Its the lack of V Sync I hate in games.. Can't be doing with screen tearing..

And hope you do come back to PC gaming... You'll be on Steam buying games just like the rest of us soon, goodbye to any free money..!!

u shouldn't have too much problem at that res tbh.

im currently using the GTS250, but at 1920x1200
it plays most games ok, althou some of the more graphic intensive ones i cant run high graphics without noticing abit of slowdown

inspiron? - thats a dell system right? probably will have to change the psu to a higher watage one to put a better graphics card in, plus dells have dodgy non standard psu's apparently. if you havent purchased the system yet why not just buy a custom built 1 from here if you dont want to build it yourself?

Maybe it's for folding?

He'd probably have mentioned 'gaming and folding' if that were the case, but even so, that's why I asked :P

Seriously, no point tieing yourself to one brand, grab the best that's available at the price point. And currently, the best is going to be ATI at pretty much all the price points.

Only reason to go Nvidia would be CUDA, but that's not exactly a general gamer thing. PhysX isn't worth it from what I've seen.

I would ask yourself what games you will be wanting to play on this PC. You have said Crysis but what else?

i've always prefered Nvidia for reasons im not going into because they all end in a row. its not brand loyalty.

however its a long time since i played games on the PC and if ATI really are the top dogs these days then yes it would be silly to ignore them.

so if they are hundreds of pounds cheaper then what ATI card for the "same" price is MILES better then ?

+1 to the 5770.. it's on par with a GTX260. and has DX11. You'd be foolish to go with the GTS250 when a 5770 is only a few pounds more.

Just in case you didn't know, The PC doesn't really have exclusive games like it used to. Well, it has war games etc but not general interest/FPS exclusives . With you being a PC gamer in the past, you might take it as a given that it does. I'm not trying to sound negative but make a list of the games that you would play on this PC.

yeh im aware that PC gaming isnt what it used to be but im always happy with a handful of good games per year than loads of average ones.

is it only the "games for windows" pc games that support the use of the xbox360 wireless controler ?

That will just confirm that the game has been made to have full support for 360 controllers, just because a game isn't games for windows doesn't mean it will not have support it's just less likely, just google the game see if it has support (if it's not games for windows)
