Hi,

I recently set up an auction on eBay for my mum in the traditional highest bidder wins fashion. Today, we received an email from an interested buyer asking if we would be able to consider a buy it now price for item.

Seeing as I hadn't stated a buy it now price when I set everything up, am I allowed to change my listing, are there extra charges? How would one go about doing this? Is it even allowed?

As you can probably tell, I'm no eBay expert unfortunately :(

Any help much appreciated.

Might have this wrong, but I don't think you can add a buy it now to an auction. Or that might be a reserve price once you select an auction I can't remember. It'll tell you when you try to edit your listing.

Yes, thanks guys. I didn't think it would be as simple as that, but on the edit listing page I can add a Buy It Now price, plus the usual eBay fees... Whatever they will charge me for this.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds slightly iffy. I mean, what are you selling, and what does it usually sell for? I mean, why wouldn't they bid and get it for cheaper, unless they know its likely going to sell for more than what he's offering for it now?

I often message sellers that are doing auctions and ask if they would do a buy it now, the idea is that you may get it cheaper than the final price, sooner and you definitely win.

Same here. Done it both ways buying and selling. Provided the buyer has decent feedback etc and the price is OK perfectly safe to do.

Exactly, you can get it cheaper, so as a seller surely its better to see it through since there's the chance at a higher price for you. Only issue was that obviously you could lose, so its a bit of a gabmle :p

Sorry, they were tickets Alton Towers where Pink is doing some music thing.

The guy said he wanted them sooner rather than later, so offered me £25 over the start bid for a Buy It Now price. That made them more than we were hoping to get, so I obliged and added the Buy It Now price, thanks to the advice of those on this forum :)

Cheers guys.

^^^ same here, also some times I just want / need something now..

I did this with a swing for my baby asked the guy how much for buy it now and went and picked it up later that day. He got the price he wanted, same day as he put the auction up.
