Hi,
Ive been looking for a new job for quite some time now, and apart from a lot of recruiters ringing me up and an interview or two, im not making a lot of headway tbh.

Im trying to work out if im either aiming too high and need to take a paycut and get lesser paying job to get my foot on the ladder somewhere, or wether to stick with it?
The second option is to really knuckle down and get my VCP, which should make job hunting a lot easyier.

Im also unsure if i should change my online profile from 'Experianced/Manager' (which i am), to 'Experianced/Non-Manager'.

Thoughts & advice.

Thanks in advance all. :)

Out of interest, what kind of work are you actually looking for? By VCP, I presume you are referring to the VMWare Certified Professional Certification? If so, what other skills, qualifications, and experience do you have.

Having worked in IT Support for the past eight years, I would advise anyone who hankers after long term job security against it.

As remote management/remote working technologies become more refined, the possibility of off-shoring IT staff to outsourcing companies existing within emerging economies (eg India) becomes more and more likely. We have seen it with call centre staff, and several of the companies I've worked with or for recently have had entire sections of their IT departments based in India.

No offence, but there are a few glaring spelling mistakes in your post such as "experianced" and "wether". When you apply for jobs are you doing a proper spell check and proof read? Stuff like that can really put employers off.

I think that's a bit harsh, a post on OCUK hardly needs to be perfect to be acceptable (although obviously, we should try).

I'm sure he runs his CVs through the spell chequer :)

I'm not trying to be harsh here, I don't normally care about spelling and grammar here on OCUK (and the Lord knows, I'm not perfect in this aspect either). It just struck me that "experienced" is the sort of word that one might use in a CV and covering letter.

The jobs market is a buyers market at the moment, any excuse to discard your application will be taken.

True - I know your intentions were good, I was probably being a bit overly defensive :p

Yeah, a VCP im looking at.
Got a wide array of experiances under my belt tbh, theres not a lot i havnt touched or worked on tbh.

No, your being pedantic.
As said, a post on a forum is not an indication of someones ability to spell.
And i do use F7 ;)

How many people do you manage?
Was two, now one.

Im open to many jobs tbh, however im not fussed on going into management as ive had nothing but trouble with my current position because of it. I'd rarther be a technician/engineer/etc; and not have the responsibility.

An ideal job would be one where i'd travel a bit, like a field engineer, or consultant. Although im not against 'sitting in one place'.
Got no problem, in fact it'd be ideal, with working abroad either, like Amsterdam.

In short, i dont have a particular direction i want to go in, about all ive established is that my chances look like they'll go up dramatically with a VCP, and virtualization is something that interests me greatly.

I just wonder if putting myself in as 'experienced/manager' is doing my chances harm with the jobs im applying for?

You probably know this already but it's always useful to reiterate it - to get the VCP you need to do the training course which is about £1500 and then the exam (actually you can do it either way but you need to do both parts).

I've managed a few guys in the past and just put it as a point on my CV (directly responsible for x staff) rather than anywhere else.

Already done the course back in Jan, and an exam prep refreshers about a month or so ago.
Ive been tempted in the past to wack how many i manage on my CV, but again, im wondering if because im applying for non-managerial roles, it'd work against me?
