if you were in Nazi Germany would you..

my next question would have do you think as i do that the Treaty of Versailles was the main cause of ww2 being far too harsh on the german people?

There are many causes and not easy to categorise. The treaty is only partially to blame. Rearmament, appeasement, expansionism and the German "Psyche" are all contributing factors.

That is not what he said

there is still an element of disliking towards those groups mentioned

There is disliking towards every "group" of people in the World, be that based on Nationality, Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Religion, Age etc etc.... Thats just life. Does it make it right? Nope, but the World has **generally moved on from the type of persecution seen in WW2 or even, for example, The Balkans area after that.

** note that I say "generally" as someone on here will no doubt give some specific example e.g. the gay couple being jailed in Malawi (who have been pardoned BTW)

Did I quote anything about genocide? No. I quoted about certain groups being perceived as "bad".

I never said you did mention Genocide but your comment insinuated that the World has not moved on at all when that's just not the case....

To be honest, the nazis used such absolute terror tactics (SS, Gestapo etc) that I'd be frightened into not doing it. Also, with all the propaganda going round, I'd be convinced into thinking that it was for the greater good of germany

That's roughly my thinking as well. However being Indian by genes (if that makes any sense), I'd possibly be one who'd seek a spare cupboard rather than being able to offer my own.

Not even generally moved away.

Western and Central Africa, South East Asia, Sri Lanka, Northern Turkey/Iraq, Kygyzstan to name just a few places where exactly the same kind of persecution exists today, in some cases the persecution is more barbaric, Tutsi cannabalism etc...

I'd hit Hitler with a full on PermaBan - they don't like it up 'em! :D

As to the OP's question, I'd love to say "of course, I'd hide everyone with no fear as Nazi's are bad" etc but until you're placed in that position (and I hope to god I'm never) you just don't know.

In nazi Germany would you have put you and your familys life in danger to hide/help a person oppressed by them ? tbh i think if it was a stranger i wouldnt have ,and tbh makes me feel a bit bad ,not that i dwell on this scenario ,just seeing a copy of Anne Franks diary at the library made me think
sorry a bit heavy and all that

'Anne Frank' lived in Holland.

BTW, you pay taxes to kill Taliban and other people who your culture does not agree with. Time to get past your schoolboy morality of how the world works.

i would have done as i was told rather than risk the gas chamber.

hindsight is a wonderful thing but i seriously doubt any of the rest of you would do anything different no matter what you say.

Seeing as very few Germans did (to our knowledge), I don't think I would. I don't know what percentage of Germans did help, but even if it was 1% of them, I doubt I am in the most brave, caring, considerate selfless 1% of people

Dutch resistance sent to gas chambers? Erm, no.

How about you learn some of the facts before chiming in on WW2 history like 95% of our population do.

saddens me that so many people making light of something utterly horrific.

And how else would you expect someone to reply given that the topic is unquestionablly unanswerable? It is so far removed from anything we go through in our daily lives as to make any response meaningless.

I agree. Bad things happened and bad things continue to happen but to suggest we should all respond with some apparently required gravitas on a situation we have never been in and cannot really imagine, seems rather naive to me.
