My setup is:

q8200
Ati 4850 512mb
4GB OCZ Ram
400w Corsair PSU

I am considering an upgrade of the graphic card, to a 5850. I would need to get a new PSU too i presume? I am a noob to this sort of thing, so i gues my question is, if i bought the card and a new psu is that it?

Yep that's pretty much it, and yes as Stulid said you're probably right on upgrading the PSU. Even if the Corsair can output enough wattage it lacks the dual PCIE connectors for a 5850 and it's not great running a high end card using molex converters.

Only other thing is possibly looking at overclocking your CPU and buying a cooler upgrade. The OCZ vendetta 2 is very cheap these days (can be found for around £20 inc) but sadly OCuk don't stock it. Overclocking your CPU will mean that there's less chance it will be bottlenecking the 5850.

Will i need any sort of extra cooling or anything like that is my other question? Or is it as simple as put it in?

be as simple as pulling out the 4850, and putting it in.

the 5850 requires two 6pin pci-e power connectors, i know the psu has one, fortunately the new card will come with a molex to pci-e adapter in the box.

what case do you have? the heatsink on the 5850 exhausts hot air out the back of the card.
