if you were in Nazi Germany would you..

BTW, you pay taxes to kill Taliban and other people who your culture does not agree with. Time to get past your schoolboy morality of how the world works.
I'll preface what I'm about to say by letting you know that I'm a member of the left, but I'm proud to be a member of a society that 'does not agree' with theocratic fascism.

One thing that bugs me about the typical member of the anti-Iraqi intervention lobby is that they oppose it with no real knowledge what they're opposing, and then attempt to rationalise Jihadist and Islamic fundamentalist terrorists.

Also, for anybody wanting to read about the true horrors of living in Nazi Germany, then read:
I Will Bear Witness 1933-1941: A Diary of the Nazi Years by Victor Klemperer. I'd repeat the advice I was offered when I was recommended the book, and that is not to begin reading it at night.

I wouldn't do anything to risk my family.

I'd like to think that I'd offer myself up to some sort of resistance if it were a direct military oppression, I have a different name to my family anyway so could hopefully keep reprisals in check.

I can't imagine what it would like living under SS/Germans. Thankfully.

I'd suggest you go back and watch World at War or read the transcript of the interviews where these questions are answered.

Especially "Inside the Reich: Germany (1940–1944)" and "Genocide (1941–1945)"

Dutch resistance sent to gas chambers? Erm, no.

How about you learn some of the facts before chiming in on WW2 history like 95% of our population do.

Well, perhaps if you weren't so tetchy, you wouldn't have killed Apollo Creed and sentenced the Rocky film series to a downward spiral.

It's easy to point the finger and say they were in the wrong now, but at the time, if you were there and German, you would have supported your country.

So you're saying that all the German people had no sense of ethics and unquestioningly supported Hitler? Right...

weve been down this road many times before, no none of us would risk our family's for strangers so why dont we just leave the lolocaust well alone. mmkay.

I hate to say it, but if someone leading this country said 'I think paedos and the long-term 'don't care' unemployed should be executed' this very board would give a massive 'yes' vote to it :(

Disregarding the brainwashing/hate for those groups I'd probably say yes but draw the line at girlfriend/other half or best friend. Someone very close to my heart, probably no more.

Obviously hard to say with all the external influences, but I've never felt particularly patriotic in the sense of you do whatever you can for the country unthinkingly - I have a strong affinity to the values which our country is supposed to stand for, absolutely, but in a 'our country can do no wrong' then far from it. So I'm inclined to think I would probably end up acting in accordance with those principles rather than what I was supposed to think for the good of the country, but then again the line becomes very blurred with propaganda and suchlike.

it would become hard too, again I would like to think that there wouldn't be an option of unilaterally deciding to put my family at risk but that say, my wife, would be in full agreement of the dangers and what was required. Kids make things harder of course, but I'm still unsure whether you could live with yourself, or what kind of role model or example you would be giving to your children if you collaborated willingly with inhumane treatment of other humans just to save your own skin.

I suppose there are too many factors to take in, where you lived, social status etc.

With hindsight? I think I would have to say no. They were a highly efficient machine and usually done a decent clean sweep. Risk to my family would be high and wouldn't be worth it for me.

But then again, stupid actions aren't completley unkown for me :D

It's a moot point for me, since I would have been imprisoned or executed for conscientious objection.

It was when I was in Bosnia in 1994 - 1995. On Christmas Day the Bosnian Muslims crucified some captured Croatians and broadcast it on TV. The Balkans conflict is a modern day representation of the Holocaust in many ways.

Interesting how you mention a Muslim attrocity in comparision, yet neglect to mention the Ethnic cleansing of the Bosniak Muslim population or the genocide of the Muslim population of Srebnenica which were the real representations of a modern holocaust.

Seems pretty disgusting to insinuate it was a Muslim led genocide.
