360 "slim" and natal to be called Kinect?

Looks pretty good. Might actually get one now. I've been tempted to get an xbox lately but said to myself I wouldn't buy another one until they made a new model. I've gone through 3 360's in the past.

Kinect? How do you even pronounce that? Sounds so stupid. I thought they wanted natal to appeal to the Wii market. Kinect doesn't really sound like a fun name.

Has this actually been confirmed as real cos, well, it looks like incredibly fake to me.

"Kinect" name for Natal is confirmed and the slim images are looking like they will be real according to reports. Apparently the advert on the Italian website where they appeared, linked back to a MS advertising site.

From neogaf from somewhere else!

Interesting read though

At this point, the game demos began. Nothing seemed particularly exciting at first: River Rafting, then a Mine Cart game. The racing game looked fairly nice, and featured some half-pipe car tricking, and then a strange mode where wings were affixed to the sides of the car. One avatar stood atop each wing, and the two had to work together to steer.

Then, a Disney logo. Tinkerbell flew around the screens, and some fireworks, but interestingly, this led to nothing. I don't know what it was meant to imply. Maybe I missed something while tweeting?

This was followed, however, by the highlight of the night: the Star Wars demonstration. It did NOT feel like a live demo, but it was incredibly impressive. He was force-throwing tanks and enemies with a flick of his wrist, deflecting lightsaber shots, dashing forward with a certain body motion, and using an AoE force blast by doing that think Goku does when he turns into a Super Saiyan. It did feel pre-baked, and it did feel on-rails, but it was a rush to watch. Excited.

After that was Microsoft's response to Wii Fit, a very peaceful yoga and taichi based program. Here, the avatar was shown on screen, but so was a glowy red silhouette of the woman's actual body. The game was checking her alignment and joints to ensure she was performing adequately. It was what it was.

Then, a boys v. girls two-on-two, featuring hurdles (Power Pad, run in place), javelin, bowling, a head-to-head 100m dash, soccer, then beach volleyball. All felt very similar to Wii Sports, in that movement is generally automatic. The girls won, 12 to 11. (Hmph.)

Then, a Kinectimals (sorry I wasn't up to date on the title) demonstration, which was a little creepy. I like cats and all, but the girl was all over this ****ing baby tiger. She did all the Nintendogs things: food, fetch, whatever. It's what you'd expect.

Finally, a hip-hop dancing demo. The kid failed the first two movements ("elbow throws"), so the game slowed down the beat and let him practice at a slower pace until he was a bit more proficient. Other moves included "guitar" and "seduce". Really.

It looks fugly, so that's two ugly 'slim' consoles this generation! They just don't make them like the PS2 slim these days. ;)

Would be cool if they made the power supply internal though.

So it was another Milo then? Impressive in concept but looks unfinished/restrictive in real use.

I was hoping the new Xbox and Natal/Kinect done well could re-invigorate the brand a little, as it seemed to be flagging,

But like England playing football, the anticipation was high, but the reality is car crash TV..

Just what are MS thinking? Is this some clever move to ensure the gaming devision ditches XBox completely?

That thing is just so hideous on so many levels, it even looks like cheap nasty plastic in the photo's, god knows how bad it looks in real life..

Consider me disappointed by how badly MS have missed an oppertunity..

Half the people on here moaned about the PS3 slim when it was revealed. Then a few days later promptly bought one. I expect the same to happen again.

With integrated wifi and power brick, I'd get one. Helps that it's black too, as my 360 is my only non-black piece of electronics.

Sure, if those pics are genuine, it's not the nicest looking thing, but I can lice with that.

The difference here is the slim was exactly that, a slim PS3, nothing offensive, but nothing noteworthy, it seemed odd to consider trading your existing PS3 in for one..

This looks bad to both new and existing customers..

And have you seen the reaction to the 'Kinect' event? Absolutely unanimous flop on every level..

I had high hopes for all this, it's actually peeing me off knowing how badly they've messed stuff up.. I mean someone has been pulling the wool over their eyes, and MS have fallen for it.. Emporers new clothes...
