Well, so who is now broke or put a huge hole in their gaming budget this month thanks to Steam and their excellent weekly sale they’ve just had.

We had some cracking games up for sale, I mean we had as an example –

Batman Arkahm GOTY edition
Fallout 3 GOTY edition
Oblivion GOTY edition
Morrow Wind
Metro 2033

Or a pre launch deal on Fallout 3 Vegas..!!

And we also had a free weekend of Team Fortress 2, with 50% of buying the game to keep.

Think this is one of the best weekly sales I’ve seen on Steam, some really good games to be had. Increased my list of games I need to now play via Steam.

Steam full priced games are a bit of a rip compared to other online retailers and stores, but their sales are mostly decent….

I didn't buy a single game because my piggy bank was already empty :( I completely agree, steam do have some good sales on sometimes.

Re bought Batman AA and Fallout 3, already bought both games at retail on launch. But am now trying to just buy games via Steam. I just love the convenience Steam offers me, but not the prices they charge. Got Just Cause 2 last week for £13 at retail compared to Steam's £30 and as a Steamworks title I just can't see how Steam can justify its high prices. Also picked up Metro 2033.

Publishers set their Steam prices to RRP.

Blame the publishers as they set the prices and the RRP.

I believe the publishers dont understand digital distribution yet (Some do... Square Enix and Sega for example). They understand customers like the convenience of digital distribution yet at the same time, the publishers dont want to cut out the retail channel just yet as it still provides the majority share of their revenue at the moment.

Steam retail activated games keep everyone happy for the time being.

I am not aware of a game on Steam in the UK being sold for MORE than RRP.

You did the right thing though, when steam has a sale, it gives you a chance to buy something so cheaply, it's hard to refuse sometimes.

Didn't buy anything, already had Oblivion, Arkham and Fallout 3 no interest in the others. Nothing will beat the xmas sale (well until this years hopefully!)

I never know who to believe regarding Steam pricing. Codemasters have said that Steam set the price. Yet Valve have said that profits for games are higher during their sales, so who knows?

All I know is, when they are on sale I buy and when there aren't, I don't.

Yeah, Steam pricing is strange.!!

Batman GOTY edition is around £19.99 from most online retailers and shops. The none GOTY edition is around £9.99 ish if you can find it instock..

Steam its £29.99... Hmmm so when on a 50% midweek madness and its £14.99 is still only a few quid cheaper but it has the added bonus of being listed in Steam meaning no DVD and you can download it to any machine, from anywhere using your Steam ID.

Fallout 3 GOTY edition, same story...!!

Steam is only any good with the midweek or weekend sales. I'd love know how much heir sales increase by when they drop the prices to next to or lower then shops and online stores..!!

Its almost like Valve keep the prices higher, and then just push out the deals to make you think - WOW.. 50% off... Must buy it now before its goes back up to £30..!!

Its working, I got Fallout 3 GOTY, and I wouldn't have got it otherwise... But its not like it was 50% cheaper then online, it wasn't and was in fact about the same price.. just meant I got it there and then, as opposed to waiting for it to arrive in the post, or nip into town to buy it, if I could actually find it..!!

I'm hoping we get some special deals due to E3 this week. Some of the stuff from Activision / Ubisoft is just ridiculously priced two years after release.

I love Steam deals especially 50% ones, I hope Steam through its life increases games sales for games developers/publishers and help to keep PC gaming alive. As PC gaming is sooooo much better than console (I own a Xbox 360)

I'm sure they will.... I'm guessing that a good percentage of their sales are generated through midweek and weekend deals..!!

Reason they keep pumping them out. And now Steamworks seems to be taking of a little bit more then before, what with Epic licensing the unreal tech to steamworks, hopefully it'll get a little better for PC gamers..

Steam need to sort out the release day prices. They need to match prices on release day with online retailers at the very least..!! I know sometimes its not as bad as it sounds, but come on...

some games are released £10 more, and remain this way two years down the line... I mean, Resident Evil £29.99, Street Figher IV £29.99... Erm no.. I've seen them both for way less then half this, Street Fighter IV is less then £7 if you search...

these are just a couple of examples, there are lots more.

Steamworks must be gaining in support seeing Fallout New Vegas has completely ditched GfW Live for it.

And trust me, thats a good thing. GFWL isn't that good. Its not been as bad as some have had with it, but it still tries to be Xbox live for the PC...

I have an Xbox and I use my live account for GFWL and I can see gamer points from a few games i've played on my 360 listed when playing Batman Arkham lol..

Steam has a much better overlay, it looks more professional and cleaner. Time will tell, like I say.. Steamworks titles need to be released on Steam at the same prices as online retailers are selling them for...

I await to see if Batman Arkham 2 gets a steamworks treatment or sticks with GFWL... It was interesting to see Metro 2033 using Steamworks, when it was released for Xbox360 as well.. Could have quite easy had GFWL live overlay instead.. Glady it didn't...

steam prices are so shocking, Was just about to buy battlefield bad company for £29.99 off steam then found it else where for £15.95  thats near enough half price. But i do like the 50% off deal and the bundle deals

Honestly, they have not.

Well we are sort of both right.

I remember reading aboout someone complaining about prices on the Codemasters forums.

The Director, Community Relations said.

As with any retailer, Codemasters do NOT control how retailers price their goods. The RRP is set and after that it's up to the individual retailer to decide how much they want to charge for goods - hence why you see such varying prices from retailer to retailer.

Link Here

So as you said RRP is set by the publisher, but the price you actually pay is down to the retailer, in this case Steam.
