It's finished (crash content) (now incl. new car content!)

Well done Nathan, back on the horse mate. My advice is get it out on track soon as you get it and spank it within an inch of its life. That way you will get any nervous tension out the way and feel back in 'THE ZONE'.

Great car the Elise, what sports cars are all about.

'Getting back on the horse' is one of the things in the back of my mind for why I'm doing it. "Downgrading" to some other carp just seems like I have failed at life. The absolute worst thing about it all is the empty space in the garage where my P&J used to sit.

My brother suggested an M3 or RS4 but those cars just don't really appeal to me on a low level like these cars do. Plus I don't think I'd like to pay their silly running costs. Just things like a new set of tyres or brake discs can destroy souls. I don't want to lose my license either which those cars encourage you to do!

I'm definitely going to at least take this one to a few airfield days. Though I don't think any amount of training or whatever would have prevented me from stacking the old one in a hedge. That was just a **** luck and, frankly, a lesson in life. I'll definitely take it easier on damp roads in the future and maybe change my route to avoid back roads. Basically I'm going to do a reset on my driving and reanalyse everything about the way I drive.

I had been thinking of a car upgrade this year anyway. I was thinking either Exige or Sports Racer back then. So it's not like this is some impulse or ill-thought-out purchase.

Grats on the new motor, however my initial view is thats a large chunk of cash for a car that only really delivers in a few limited situations.

Awesome dude, glad things are looking well :)

Can you educate a Lotus n00b? Whats the difference between a 111r and a Sport Racer?

Yeah it is but it keeps me happy. I'll sort out a hack this time around for round town and commuting on carp weather days.

If my priorities ever change then I can chop it in. These cars, especially Sports Racers, have pretty great depreciation characteristics.

Sounds like you did incredibly well on the valuation? I didnt realise 111r's held their money so well?

regardless, replacement looks good :)

That's just their initial offer. I'm not finished on that front yet :) Bare in mind that car had a custom 2bular worth £700, HIDs, brand new brake discs all round and braided brake lines. All of which I had declared.

Luckily it wasn't wearing the hard top I bought last year for it. So I can sell that on soon. Should get a cool £700 for that, more than I paid for it!

Sports Racer is basically a 111R but with almost all possible extra options included. Hard top, viper stripes, forged and powdercoated alloy wheels (lighter weight), traction control, wider front alloys/tyres (195, Exige spec), Sports Suspension (same as Exige), fly-by-wire throttle etc, LED rear lights. Obviously a few of those are now standard on the modern Elise's (LED rear lights, FBW throttle). The Sports Racer was the first to have them though.

They're more or less respected as the best special edition Lotus did in this decade.

awesome :)

I used to hate Elise's before I knew the whole 'point' of them. Would love one now!

If you haven't yet driven one I'd recommend it, then you'll really understand the point! They really feel like they can defy the laws of physics, sometimes you just can't believe that your only contact with the road is 4 bits of rubber.

Yep. But I couldn't believe it either when 2 of those bits of rubber lost all grip for the first time on me in 3 years :p :(

How does the Sport Racer differ to Neil's Club Racer?
