Hi all

I have been looking at the HTC Desire and it seems like a great phone. I have had a phone call from Vodafone offering me one and I took them up on the offer. However I am still on my same contract and I am not sure that my 'Unlimited Internet' package with its limited 500MB FUP will be enough data per month.

What contract do you other HTC desire owners have, how much data do you usually use? and what uses up your data limit?

Thanks in advance

I'm on a Panther contract with Orange giving me a 750MB FUP per month.

So far this month I've used less than 60MB since 1st June. That's a fairly small amount of browsing, email, facebook, twitter and downloading a few apps. Also includes updating things like weather and querying the national rail app.

If you are not streaming audio and video I don't think even 500MB is an issue.

I don't understand how people use so little data myself.

I'm on T-Mobile with a Desire and currently have 1GB cap because I didn't call and get moved up to 3GB yet. I've had the phone 10 days and have already used over 500MB with no video or music streaming.

DL'ed a few apps, email, browsing, facebook and a few news apps etc syncing every now and then.

I feel either the data usage stats on the T Mobile site are lying to me or 500MB is not a lot of data at all for mobile use.

Who knows, but with mobile companies you just have to hope and pray as there's sod all you can do about anything :p

It varies for me, but sometimes I use around 50mb, just checked and this month have used about 275mb, thats a good bit of surfing, quite a few app downloads and other random stuff. Personally I don't know how people use so much :P

You do use your wifi right?

I've used about 400mb in 4 months on the iphone. I use the net quite a bit as well but much of that is forums based so tiny amounts of data and it's setup to automatically use wifi in a few of the common places I tend to be so that saves me a fair bit.

I have never gone over 400mb... and im quite a user :)

Usually sits about 300mb id say... lots of web, apps, etc. I dont stream tho, well excluding the odd beebplayer when i finish a book without a new one to go onto :P

Very little wifi use, usual amount of surfing maybe an hour a day,few apps downloaded.then there is all the apps that pull data all the time, after checking 3g watch dog i use on average 25mb a day,i am on a 1 gig cap so i am under that but i know 500mb would not be enough, maybe if i used the wifi more at home i could cut it down to under 500mb..

Using wifi could be one of the differences, I tend to turn off wifi and mobile internet overnight and then do the first sync of the day over wifi in the morning before turning on mobile internet.

When I'm home in the evening I'll also switch the phone to wifi instead of mobile internet

with my voda upgrade, supposedly the new system is they put you on the current version of your price bracket contract when you upgrade too, so my £35 got my 600 mins, unlimited texts, 1GB data per month and a Nexus One....used to have 500 mins, 200 texts and no data package on old tarrif

500mb is a hell of a lot for what you say you use it for.

Even streaming music I don't come close to that. Download the app that monitors usage and shows you how its broke down.

I use my phone for browsing and push email and I rarely go over 200mb per month. All my app downloads, music streaming and videos are done over WiFi.
