Before I get flamed, I am not thinking of buying one.

Are they not good cars? I ask because I have always liked them however I don’t see many of them on the road, they cost the same as a good 911, SL, R8 however they don’t seem to sell as well.

How are they to live with day to day? expensive to run (ie more then a 911, SL, R8)?

I believe they are expensive to maintain, plus Aston Martin were tainted by their association with Jaguar/Ford. It always seeded the Jaguar version of whatever Aston launched was better.

The DB7 was unreliable as I recall.

However I think that has changed and the DB9 range is a lot better thought of.

I'd buy one, but not as a daily drive

Andi.

Of course they are expensive to run, all the cars you listed are.

The V8 Vantage sits nicely between the 911 (more pure speed) and the SL (luxury). It suffers slightly from the image of being the “poor mans Aston” where as the other two are their respective bards flagship models, and have years of history and a cult following to match.

Having said that I wouldn’t say they are unpopular. I’d have the Aston, especially as you can now pick one up used for £40k (it’s the running costs of any car like that I 100% can’t afford)!

By no means a bad car. The DB9 is the consummate inter continental cruiser, a proper GT car. The V8 vantage is in design, more towards a sports car than the DB9. Would love to own one, and in actual fact theres one sat right outside my office window now. Sounds glorious with fuse 22 removed (the fuse that holds the bypass exhaust permanently open and in loud mode)

Fantastic cars, especially if you want something with prestige and comfort that isn't an out and out sports car (compared to some of the competition).

You live in London and don't see many?

I live SW London and work in West London and I know of 4 of these that live near me and I probably see at least 1 a day on my cycle commute in.

I really like them but I think they are let down by all the competition being better all round. My dad bought a 911 and I personally would have had the AMV8 but I suspect the 911 is a better car...

people who buy a V8 Vantage buy it precisely because its not a 911.

There is a definate image problem with a 911, too many people associate it as being an appendage.

Th V8 is refined, and not ostentatious like others in its class. The V8 Vantage is a very good car in its own right. I honestly dont think theres an answer to the question "V8 Vantage or 911" as this debate on the topgear website illustrates beautifully....

Within 5mins of driving the Vantage you'll want one, sound is just unreal, even better than a DB9 IMO.

I disagree tbh, I found it had more of a relaxed atmosphere with a lot of comfort. The noise wasn't overly noticeable unless you were giving it some.
