Hi.

I recently signed up to pay my TV License online. This is a new property and we only moved in a few days ago. It says I am paying £145.50 between the dates of 08/07/2010 to 08/11/2010, 5 payments of £29.10. It then says i'm paying another £145.50 between the dates of 08/12/2010 to 08/11/2011, 11 payments of £12.12 and 1 payment of £12.18. This doesn't make any sense at all.

Anyone help me out with this? This is my first ever TV License.

Thanks :)

Yeah your paying monthly but they want you to be 6 months ahead hence the 6 months at double the rate.
By the time you need to renew your license you will of paid for half of it already.
Best way to do it to avoid this is pay quarterly.

So im paying a full one in 6 months, then a full one again in 12 months so they'll owe me 6 months after 18 months?

I got suckered into this scheme and promptly cancelled it...

I just pay the whole fee once year, easier. they send me a bill for it, I pay it when I can be bothered... Normally after the second reminder..

Hate paying it to be honest. I never watch BBC broadcasting till the F1 moved over to BBC1. Reason I do actually pay it now..!!

No.. you pay double now, for six months, then it goes to a rolling month by month and you're six months in front.. If you cancel they refund you the six months you've paid up front..

If you still need a licence they send you yearly bill when the old one expires..!!

Hmm, I might do the same to be honest! We've got Virgin but I guess everyone needs a TV License?

I don't know what the previous owners had paid for so I assumed that I must get my own. Gonna see if I can cancel it and pay for it in one lump.

Yep... Sadly if you can receive a BBC broadcast you have to pay it. Even if you use BBC iPlayer for 'live' broadcasts you need to pay the fee.

I get my BBC via Sky, don't pay sky anything a month, I just pay the yearly licence fee and that's it..

Bit of a rip, but thankfully £145 isn't going to bankrupt me.. Its just the principle of paying for something I hardly ever use, that’s all with me really.

As for the monthly scheme, nah.. Hate Direct Debit Schemes.. But thats just me, and each to their own.

Yes, but it wont be long before the "Idiot Tax" brigade arrive telling you not to bother. Followed up by a massive argument about what you do and dont need a TV License for.

That won't make any difference I think.. Its you that'll need to pay the bill. The previous occupiers will tell TV licensing they are moving and their license will move with them to their new address.

As far as TV licensing are concerned you are a new customer and owe the full amount.. Just call them up, cancel the DD scheme. They’ll send you a bill via the post to pay the full fee via the post office or online or whatever really.

Noooo!

You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it's being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder.

Just because you can receive doesn't mean you have to pay

Don't you pay a TV License then mate?

No honestly, dont watch TV apart from F1 on iplayer (not live) and mrs watches hollyoaks and eastenders same way.

Used to but when split up with the ex didnt really bother getting sky again! We end up just getting lovefilm rentals and watching football down the pub!

As per every single TV license thread on here, ever :x

Hmm...it looks like I don't need my TV license after all. I only watch a couple of hours a week on iplayer and never watch TV live. I didn't even know you could watch TV live on iplayer.

Mind you, if I cancel they'll bitch at me forever and I'm not sure that it's worth the fuss.

I think that they've stopped the hounding.

I bought a TV just after moving into a new place and when the letter came through I phoned them up and said it's just used for DvDs and a console, and I haven't heard from them since.
