...that is similar style to a Tuniq Tower (ie slow 120mm fan) but is overall not as tall??

I measured a Tuniq Tower and the offset from the bottom of my board to the top of the CPU and determined there was enough space in my 4U rack case for it to fit (JUST!!)

However I forgot about the motherboard stand offs so it's about 6-7mm to high to get the lid on - DOH!!

I would recommend the nice little liquid coolers such as Corsair H50 and Coolit ECO ALC. I have recently installed the Coolit ECO ALC and it dropped my CPU temp, QX6700, from 72 degrees Celcius on idle to 28 degrees Celcius on idle.

If you don't want either of them then there are standard heat pipe coolers which I am sure others will provide information for.

72 idle? :O

...Even with the stock cooler and the fan not attached it shouldn't be 72 idle.

Vendetta 2 is supposed to be pretty good, not sure if it's smaller than the Tuniq though. You can pick them up for around £20 inc delivery these days.

I know it wasn't supposed to be that high: Hence why I got a new cooler for it. Though I couldn't afford a full water cooling kit, the time to maintain it nor the space for a big HSF. It was reaching anywhere between 65-72 degrees with a Zalman CNPS9700 LED, though under load it didn't go much higher.

I now am trying to overclock it: Although as I am fairly new in this area I do not know what to do. I am very tentative about overclocking.

why dont you try the Corsair CWCH50-1 Cooling Hydro Series H50 High-performance CPU Cooler ?? it's easy to use and if you're new to overclocking "as i am " i would go for this first then just work your way up !!!

Post in your specs if you can and send me some email shots of your system would be nice to see what you going =D

Thermalright Ultima 90i with a noctua 92mm quiet fan did very well for me on Q6600 at 3GHz. Its significantly shorter than any of the 120mm fan fitment coolers.

Thanks for all your responses.

I never thought about the H50. Only small issue is that there is currently no 120mm exhaust / intake holes so I'd have to mod the case - Not a biggy but would slow things down a little.

However that Scythe Big looks like a possible plan - provided I've got enough clearance for it. The case is a short 4U rack and to get it that short the case is a little cramped inside.

@jtay78. No pics available (camera is out of action atm) but it's my old Q6600 CPU running at stock speed on a Asus P5K-VM board with 4GB of OCZ Gold DDR2 ram and 2x WD Black 500GB in RAID1 on a PCI-e x1 hardware RAID controller and driving 2x 17" monitors from the onboard graphic and sound is from an ESI-Audio Maya 44e 4in-4out soundcard.
