Sadly that is my suspicion too. Bioware are an awesome company, but mmos are entirely different beasts, I truly do fear that this will ultimately end up with people saying the same kind of thing they said about star trek online - "where is the mmo in this game" . I hope not, because otherwise there is going to be an awful lot of disappointed people and I wouldn't want to see people disappointed. Nevertheless that's my fears, that it will end up as more an online co-op game than an mmo.

Time will tell I guess.

Going off my personal radar, I could see STO ending up like it has over half a year before release, just like many others games but it's what make a good MMO that count and I believe, for the better is they are using the core tried and tested tactics that wow has shown to work.

So what if they copy other people ideas, in the end it could work out.
Bioware have shown us how good a sp game they can make, now to try it out in an mmo. It's not like Blizzard had more experience beforehand either!

I think most of us can smell when an MMO isn't going to live up to expectations. Again, personally I've never thought an MMO would ever beat wow in terms of being "succesful" but I do believe, after all these years this one might actually have a chance at coming close to it.

I am tempted to agree. We won't be able to do 1/2 the stuff in the CG trailer; destructible scenery et al, so why make a trailer showcasing it? Until I see it in action, I'm sceptical. Let us not forget Star Wars Galaxies~ :o

I hope so, I truly do. For your sake and the sake of all others with unwavering faith that Bioware will do it.

Sadly I think that as much as I utterly...utterly adore titles like Baldurs Gate (some of the best games I've ever played), I just feel that SWTOR will end up not being the MMO I like. I suspect that it will not be open enough for my MMO tastes, wont have enough freedom for my MMO tastes and will end up as a graphical lobby + instances style of MMO. Regardless of whether it matches my tastes, I truly do hope that there arent lots of disappointed people out there come release.

Blizzard are somewhat of an exception because Blizzard dont attempt to innovate so they dont need prior experience in a genre. What Blizzard do , and have always done, is just take the bits that work already out of everyone elses games , whack it together and shove their badge on it. Bioware arent really doing that from what I have read, from what I see they are trying to bring the strength of single player storylines etc to an MMO. What I fear is that it will just end up missing the "MMO factor". Like I say though, those are just my fears. Perhaps they will prove unfounded, perhaps not. Time will tell.

Star Wars Galaxies came close to beating WoW, but they killed it off with the release of the NGE, apparently that was Lucasarts to blame and not SOE, so it would be interesting to see what Lucasarts demands from Bioware for TOR.

Well SWG came before WoW, really by the time WoW came out SWG was already on the decline due to being messed about with. Pity really because if they had taken another path with SWG it could have turned into a really good sandbox MMO.
 
Dudes this is star wars it will be uber no matter what until the first load of balance changes and combat revamps.

It better be good.
 
I can't wait to see the usual MMO whining on the official forums. They all think it is going to be so perfect over there - they obviously haven't been at an MMO launch before!
 
Just downloaded and watched the HD version from gametrailers. I thought it was amazing better than the decieved trailer, and this is coming from someone whos gonna play sith.

Im way beyond excited to the point if this game is a flop or just average, ill probably wont even notice:p
I really cant see that happening though i really think its gonna be great.
 
This is the first i've seen of it TBH as i'm trying to get into RPG's and would like to try a decent MMO from launch as I play far to much generic FPS so this looks interesting, massive Star Wars fan too
 
Yay, everyone gets a personal starship as their base of operations/home :) And PVP battlefields recreating the most epic battles :D
