Late delivery - salesman MIA

Hi!

I ordered my new car at the beginning of April, with an estimated delivery of 8-10 weeks.

I was promised regular updates by the salesman, but he seems to have gone AWOL, is never available when I call the sales desk, and doesn't return my calls.

On top of this, I found out that the car has been significantly delayed (now expected 3rd week of July, which makes it 15 weeks (rather than 8-10). No reason for the delay has been given.

I'm a pretty reasonable chap, and actually don't like confrontations, etc - but the question is. Is this typical behaviour? Do salesmen just notch up sales and then not care? I'm considering walking away from the deal and losing the £250 deposit - but at this point I'm so frustrated at the lack of comms that it's a price I'm willing to pay...and I'll take my business elsewhere.

So, again, is this typical behaviour? Should I just sit and wait...and wait...? Has anyone here got fed up at delays and just cancelled their order?

Thanks!

I've had similar thoughts when buying second hand cars locally (although both had to be shipped from another dealer).

I phoned up all the time when they failed to phone me, probably to the point where I became an annoyance - but then, after I've just spent five figures with someone, I expect to be able to take such liberties.

If I was in your situation, I'd have been in to the dealer several times already.

What is the car, by the way?

Megane RS 250

So, yes, quite a lot of car (or at least quite a lot of money, if you don't like the car).

Nice effort - the new Meganes are probably the first Renault I've liked in a long time :)

And for the money you've spent, I'd have no qualms going in there and demanding answers, as well as phoning every day :D

That's pretty poor of Renault.

My Swift Sport was looking like it was going to take 3 months + to deliver after agreeing to buy in principle, and the dealership I was buying through had literally just taken delivery of a red one (which was the colour I was after), which they were going to use as a demonstrator and that it was unavailable for purchase. They said that the waiting list is long(ish) because there weren't many being imported into the UK at that time.

The next day, the sales manager called me and offered me the opportunity to buy the unregistered car they'd literally just got, and I ended up with it after about 2 weeks after everything had been arranged and the car was registered. They called me every step of the way, telling me of any issues to do with finance, even though it was their end that the problems were with. Customer service was fantastic considering the lack of prestige the brand has to support, and I came out the other end of the sales experience pleasantly surprised by it all - i.e. people actually doing what they say they will.

It's pretty poor if you can't get hold of the salesman. He probably wants a quiet life rolling around in his pile of commission from the last sale whilst trying to brown nose the next potential purchaser.

speak to a manager and tell him of your plan to just leave it. they should want to keep the sale even if the salesman isnt bothered like it seems

as for actually leaving it well id research the availability because if its renault who are behind with orders then your going to have to start the wait again

Did they give any reason for the lack of updates and the salesman being awol?

One failed relay of a message, and they don't normally call to update unless the car has been built (apparently there was a supply shortage of the leather for the seats).

And the salesman was AWOL in general because he's "very busy" apparently.

Not a good excuse really, but I'm just glad that everything is apparently OK.

:)

3 weeks is just long enough for something else to crop up but short enough that you won't cancel on the spot. ;) :p

Too busy to speak to a paying customer. I'd chops his nuts off, probably right in the middle of his showroom when it's full of punters he isn't too busy to speak to.
