So my sister wants rid of her A3, but she wants either a 350Z roadster or S2000

I have banned her from getting either as she was bad enough driving her 1.8 so "fast" cars are out of the question.

Now she won't admit this but she only wants one of those so people will be like "Ooooh nice car!" so I was trying to tell her to choose a nice looking, good spec car which doesn't have to be fast.

I suggested a Brerra, Abarth, SLK, but these are a bit too out of budget, we ruled out alpha spiders, a4 cabrios and the like due to the softop issue. What else is there?

Budget: £8k
Size: Small ish (Think A3, but can be slightly bigger if appealing)
Type: Hatch, Saloon... doesn't matter
Seats: Preference 5, but 2+2 would suffice
Boot: She wants to put her sub & amp from the A3 in her "new" car (she's the only surgeon I know with a system) and there has to be room for some small luggage as well.
Mileage: <40k
Age: No preference

Needs to have the Wow factor.

get her an Audi A4 1.8T convertible instead. Only 160bhp and 0-60 in a very sedate 9.1 seconds

"Woo its a convertible" still.

but she wont kill herself in it

Likewise a BMW 318i cab. only 143bhp and 0-60 in 10.0 seconds

or how about a MX5 ? low power Audi TT ?

Audi TT? A prettier looking Audi A3.

Not sure she would have got a sub 40k 350z or S2000 for £8k either so if she wants an 'ohhhh you smug ***** with your nice car' car then she may have to either remove the <40k preference or up the budget.

Also what is an 'alpha spider' and a 'Brerra'

What issue?

The soft top issue is security mainly, as leaving the car parked up in certain areas won't be plausible with a soft top.

OK "Alfa" & "Brera" :p

She doesn't like TTs for some reason. She was willing to pay more, but between 8-10k would work.

Surely there is a nice car to be purchased for ~8k with ~40k miles? :(

what was she looking at the S2000 for then ?
Because her friend has one

She was after an S2000 or 350Z Roadster before I mentioned all the drawbacks of owning a soft top in Manchester. I think she now realises it's not a sane choise.

so is she ruling the soft top out or are you ?

if she wants one, let her have one.

If the soft top is really a problem, look into cars like the MX5 that you can buy a removable hard top for when its parked up in rough areas.

Me first, she took some coming round to.

Didn't think about a removable hardtop, how practical are they? Are they prone to leaking? Easy for one person to assemble alone?

Mazda to her is a no no. Too understated. Basically the marque isn't special enough.

You have to remember this is not about her buying a car for fun, this is her buying a car to impress :(

But a Nissan (Datsun) is a special marque?

RX-8?

TT really sounds like the best one tbh, even if I don't like the car hardly I can understand it's slow enough and prestige enough to make idiots think wow.

Hang on, your sister is old enough to be a surgeon and to drive but not old enough to choose her own car?
You've 'banned' her from getting specific cars?

She accepts this?

Fotunately my sister is not an idiot and does not like TTs either. However please refrain from implying such a close member of my family is an "idiot" if you wish to participate in this thread further.

She is old enough yes, she's almost 30. But you would have to know her to understand that she should not be allowed in a fast car just yet.

The S2000 has an optional hard top does it not?

Like this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1789107.htm
Nice idea, I still think the S2000 is too much of a car for her though.
