Just got sky on so far so happy been downloading at 460kb but its the first day its on people say about trial or sumfin does this mean i could get quicker at the end of it.

My stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 13.0 db

He will be lucky to sync at 6mb @ 6db noise margin on a 54db line.

DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,183 / 8,860
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 27.5 / 55.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 7.5

You were saying?

;)

You obviously have a very good quality line. He doesnt. If it syncs over 6000, I will eat my words.

I know, but he still has a 54db line, which all the calulators say will get a ~4meg sync. I know I got a 3900kbps sync from a 53db line with a 6db noise margin.

Ignoring the irrelevant attenuation, the SNR margin is at 7.2dB as it is. You aren't going to get much more than that when the default's 6dB and to get anywhere near 7-8Mbps you'd need to tweak it a good bit lower.

Well im happy with what speed ive got now o2 said i could get 6mb i only took sky as i get it with my package i wouldnt mind seeing 6mb i would be happy but as some people said 8mb would be really good. What tweaks should i try or should i wait till my 16 days are over.

It doesn't make much odds whether you do it now or do it later. You'd need a router that will let you tweak the SNR margin it connects at but there's no way you're going to get 8Mbps.

What?

Don't talk nonesense...

@OP -

You should be able to request the DLM to be turned off or wait for the 16 days to pass by.

Which socket have you connected your modem to, and how many sockets do you have?

Think you need to check my stats again...

My friend with a line of 63dB gets 5meg! ;)

It's you that's talking nonsense if you think they're even remotely comparable. Your stats don't. mean. a. thing...

You're suggesting getting an extra 4Mbps, from where exactly (with 1.2dB over the default target SNR margin)?
Disabling DLM won't make a jot of difference - you're thinking of the cases where the line connects at 15dB or so.

He's on the DLM right now, and also his wiring could be a problem and probably is.

Anything else?

When I first joined ADSL2+ my connection was at 3mb and it went to 8mb after a few days.

It might be, but no one has suggested playing with the internal wiring.
You're suggesting he'll get 8Mbps just by waiting a fortnight based upon an anecdote of someone with a higher attenuation who did.
